The demand for marketing professionals in the online and technology sectors is expected to sharply increase in 2012, according to the 13th edition of the Global Salary Survey by international recruitment consultancy Robert Walters.

Professionals with SEO and SEM skills were in high demand in 2011 as businesses implemented large online campaigns and began to grow their social media channels. This trend is likely to continue into 2012 as businesses push to increase revenues through online channels.

Robert Walters’ Associate Director – Sales & Marketing, Chris Newsham said, “In 2011 we saw steady demand for sales, marketing and communications professionals across the market. However, in 2012 those candidates with skills in online, technology and IT&T will be most sought after as companies seek to support their growing online operations.  We believe these professionals will be able to command higher salaries and other non financial benefits as market confidence continues to grow.”

The survey also found that roles which tied into revenue generation, specifically business development professionals, were in demand in 2011 and that trend is expected to continue.
Project communications professionals also benefited from boom sectors, due to mining, engineering and construction companies commencing major infrastructure projects.

Now in its 13th year, the Robert Walters Global Salary Survey is the most comprehensive of its kind. Compiled by the company’s dedicated research team and covering all 23 countries  and disciplines in which Robert Walters specialises, the latest edition offers an overview of salaries and recruitment trends from 2011, as well as those expected in 2012.
