Tax Manager
A leading profit-for-members superannuation fund is seeking a Group Tax Manager to join their highly respected Finance, Procurement and Tax team in Sydney CBD. What you'll do:
- Contribute to the development and execution of group tax objectives aligned with the overall tax strategy, ensuring all activities support the fund’s commitment to its members.
- Manage engagement with regulators such as the ATO on group tax matters, proactively identifying opportunities to optimise tax positions and reduce operational risks.
- Oversee the preparation and delivery of high-quality internal tax advice and ensure compliance obligations are met across income tax, FBT, GST, country-by-country reporting, AIIR reporting, and more.
- Lead specific tax-related projects including efficiency reviews, technical research assignments, and process improvements that simplify operations for both members and internal stakeholders.
- Coach and develop Senior Associates/Associates within the Group Tax team by fostering a collaborative environment focused on growth, knowledge sharing, and high performance.
- Build strong relationships with external advisors on investment-related tax matters and make informed recommendations regarding outsourcing when appropriate.
- Monitor legislative changes affecting superannuation funds and provide input into submissions on relevant reforms impacting investments or member accounts.
- Deliver clear technical guidance and training to business units on complex tax issues while ensuring adherence to established governance frameworks.
- Manage distribution review processes for managed investment schemes including analysis of tax components and timely review of unit pricing impacts.
- Champion risk awareness by embedding robust compliance frameworks within the team, completing cyclical risk assessments, and cultivating a culture of accountability.
What you bring:
- A minimum of eight years’ experience specialising in tax advisory and compliance within accounting/law firms or financial services sectors such as superannuation or funds management.
- Formal tertiary qualifications in commerce or law-based disciplines (e.g., Bachelor of Commerce/Business/Economics/LLB or equivalent) are required; post-graduate qualifications in taxation/accounting (such as Master of Taxation/Laws or Chartered Accountant program) are highly regarded.
- Extensive knowledge of Australian tax laws with proven ability to interpret legislation accurately and produce clear written advice for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated experience with superannuation funds taxation—including income tax, GST, unit pricing—and familiarity with tax effect accounting for financial reporting purposes is highly valued.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting principles coupled with hands-on experience preparing tax provision calculations for management reporting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills enabling you to communicate complex concepts clearly while building trust-based relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven track record in coaching teams towards high performance through supportive leadership practices that encourage collaboration and professional growth.
