What you'll do:
As a Business Advisory and Accounting Manager in Melbourne’s premier professional services environment, your day-to-day responsibilities will centre around managing a portfolio of clients with precision and care. You will guide your team through complex accounting challenges while ensuring that each member receives tailored support based on their skills and experience. Your role involves reviewing work for accuracy—especially in areas like Superannuation Funds—and maintaining high standards across all deliverables. You’ll be responsible for setting productivity targets and budgets for your client base while preparing forecasts that keep workflow efficient.
By identifying technical issues in taxation legislation or accounting standards early on, you’ll mitigate risks for clients and develop planning strategies that maximise value. You’ll also play an active part in training sessions—both as facilitator and participant—helping your team stay up-to-date with industry developments. - Effectively manage a diverse client portfolio by providing technical support, constructive feedback, and guidance to team members who work on your accounts.
- Set, review, meet, and oversee productivity targets as well as client budget expectations while ensuring all work is accurately billed according to organisational standards.
- Provide ongoing technical support and mentorship to junior staff members, ensuring they are assigned tasks that match their experience and capabilities.
- Conduct thorough reviews of junior team members’ work to maintain high quality standards across all deliverables.
- Manage expectations of both clients and directors by communicating clearly and consistently regarding project progress and outcomes.
- Oversee multiple staff members by understanding their strengths and gaps in knowledge, allocating tasks accordingly, and ensuring necessary training is carried out.
- Prepare team WIP forecasts, manage workflow efficiently based on capacity plans, set realistic time frames for projects, and ensure deadlines are met.
- Review and provide quality assurance on work related to Superannuation Funds including financial statements, tax returns, letters, correspondence, pension letters, and more.
- Identify technical issues within various areas of the tax system such as assessable income, allowable deductions, capital gains tax exemptions/rollovers, fringe benefits tax, Division 7A loans, GST, individual tax rates, small business CGT concessions, capital allowances/capital works, company/trust losses, dividend imputation system, trading stock, superannuation.
- Actively participate in training sessions or discussions around specific technical areas while facilitating knowledge sharing within the team.
What you bring:

- CA or CPA qualification is essential along with over ten years’ experience in public practice environments where you have managed teams successfully.
- Advanced understanding of the Corporations Act as well as relevant accounting standards/tax legislation is required for this position.
- Exceptional written/verbal communication skills enable you to advise clients confidently based on sound knowledge while maintaining professionalism at all times.
- Excellent Xero knowledge combined with advanced proficiency using Office products (including Excel tables/graphs/formulas/pivot tables/vlookup) ensures you can handle complex data analysis tasks efficiently.
- Proven ability to build advanced client relationships where you are regarded as a trusted advisor who delivers value beyond expectations.
