Senior Financial Accountant

Government organisation seeking a Senior Financial Accountant on a 3 month contract. The successful candidate will provide technical advice to the agency on the applicability of the relevant accounting standards, legislative requirements and audit requirements on complex transactions and arrangements. This role will support the Chief Financial Officer in making decisions on the financial implications of complex transactions.

  • 3 month contract
  • Paying $750-799 Per day
  • Sydney based, 1 day a week in the CBD office

Key responsibilities:

  • Interpretation of Accounting Policies: Analyze and interpret state accounting policies, guidelines, and regulations to ensure compliance and adherence.
  • Legislative Compliance: Stay current with changes in accounting legislation, standards, and regulations affecting government entities.
  • Policy Development: Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement accounting policies and procedures that align with regulatory requirements and organisational goals.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, statements, and disclosures in compliance with government accounting standards.
  • Audit Support: Assist in the preparation for and coordination of audits conducted by external and internal auditors, ensuring compliance with auditing standards and requirements.
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support decision-making processes and strategic initiatives.

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Must have a CPA/CA.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial accounting, with a focus on governmental accounting and policy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
