About the role:
The Senior Financial Accountant works within the finance team and is responsible for supporting financial decision making through the application of accounting standards to prepare and analyse financial reports and statements. In this business-critical role, the Senior Financial Accountant reports directly to the Finance Manager and is highly involved in financial reporting, compliance, tax, and process improvement. The Senior Financial Accountant will be the subject matter expert and a key point of contact across AAL, working with a wide variety of stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes within the growing organisation.

This role requires an engaging, analytical, and technically strong candidate to join a high performing team and contribute to the ongoing success and continuous improvement of AAL. Your expertise will expand beyond technical accounting and will be pivotal in collaborating across teams, providing advice on accounting treatments and insights, and optimising financial processes and ensuring tax compliance.

The role is ideal for candidates from accounting firms seeking to transition to corporate roles or professionals eager to join a company with planned growth and an exciting capex pipeline.

Responsibilities will include:

• Prepare and review full year and half year financial statements including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements in compliance with Australian Accounting Standards.
• Analyse financial data and communicate key findings and trends to management.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations and keep up to date with changes, including supporting the delivery of the reformed ESG standards from ISSB.
• Prepare the annual income tax return, lodge the Group’s indirect taxation statements and work closely with tax advisors with their review.
• Conduct in depth financial analysis to support strategic decision making across the aeronautical and non-aeronautical related subject matter.

Key requirements to be successful in this role:

• Degree qualifications in Accounting with CA/CPA qualification.
• Thorough understanding of the Australian Accounting Standards.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to prepare and review financial information for management, statutory and regulatory processes.
• Strong business acumen and understanding of commercial dynamics.
• Proficient using Microsoft Suite and Office programs.
• Sound communication skills and ability to prepare high quality written reports.
