Assistant Accountant

This role offers a unique opportunity to play a key part in the performance and enablement of the organisations finance function. The successful candidate will report directly to the Finance Manager, with additional guidance from the Chief Operating Officer. This position is perfect for those who are enthusiastic about accounting and have a knack for detail-oriented tasks.

What you'll do:

As an Assistant Accountant, you will be immersed in a variety of responsibilities that are crucial to the smooth operation of our client's finance function. You will handle daily bank transactions, manage credit card processes, assist with payroll, and prepare budgets. Your role will also involve producing necessary reports and ensuring that all accounting systems remain balanced. This position requires someone who can prioritise tasks effectively, maintain organisation, and work autonomously.

  • Daily bank transaction capture and reconciliation of all Business Bank Accounts
  • Daily recording of AP invoices including disbursements for matters
  • Management of the Credit Card process including weekly reconciliations and processing of transactions
  • Backup for fortnightly payroll
  • Monthly reconciliation of BAS Reports
  • Assist in the preparation of Budgets
  • Weekly preparation of Expense and AP listings for payment, uploading payments
  • Journal Processing (predominantly month end)
  • Support in month end reconciliations
  • Produce reports on data where required for month end processes or meeting requests


What you bring:

The ideal candidate for this Assistant Accountant role brings a wealth of bookkeeping experience along with a degree in Accounting or similar. You should have a solid understanding of Accounting Standards, Income Tax, GST, and relevant Acts and legislation. We value punctuality, presentation skills, responsiveness, quality and accuracy in work undertaken. Above all else, we are looking for a professional who can work collaboratively with others to achieve positive outcomes.

  • Degree in Accounting or Bookkeeping or similar
  • Previous bookkeeping experience essential
  • Good knowledge of Accounting Standards, Income Tax, GST and relevant Acts and legislation
  • Good punctuality and presentation
  • Ability to respond in a timely way to all requests for support
  • Quality, accuracy of work undertaken
  • Professionalism and the ability to work with others to ensure a positive outcome
