Senior Financial Accountant

* Senior Financial Accountant opportunity within a leading professional services firm in Sydney CBD. * CA/ CPA qualification required. * 6+ years experience in a legal or professional services firm. * Payroll processing experience for 30+ employees.

What you'll do:

  • Update and monitor the fixed asset register to ensure all company assets are accurately tracked and recovered within required timeframes.
  • Work closely with the Chief Financial Officer to evaluate and report on the financial performance of the firm, providing timely insights that inform key business decisions.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders across departments to prepare statutory accounts and consolidated financial reports that meet regulatory requirements.
  • Induct new employees into payroll systems and HR3 processes, ensuring smooth onboarding experiences for all staff members.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual budgets as well as monthly rolling budgets, contributing valuable input based on thorough financial analysis.
  • Oversee monthly payroll processing for all staff and partners, managing associated tasks such as reconciliations and compliance documentation lodgement.
  • Manage annual workers compensation declarations along with year-end payroll reconciliations to maintain compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Support the Credit Manager and Accounts Payable Officer as needed, fostering a cooperative approach within the finance function.
  • Assist with annual trust audit compliance processes by preparing necessary documentation and responding promptly to auditor queries.
  • Reconcile key General Ledger accounts at month end, preparing comprehensive management reports that provide clarity on financial status.

What you bring:

  • At least eight years’ experience working in senior accounting roles within professional services or similar environments where accuracy is paramount.
  • Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Accounting coupled with Chartered Accountant or CPA qualification demonstrating your commitment to professional standards.
  • Superior knowledge of accounting principles combined with hands-on experience using advanced accounting software packages relevant to Australian businesses.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills enabling you to explain complex financial information clearly to both finance professionals and non-finance stakeholders alike.
  • Strong organisational abilities allowing you to manage multiple priorities efficiently while meeting tight deadlines without compromising quality or compliance.
  • Advanced computer literacy particularly in Microsoft Office Suite—with emphasis on Excel—enabling you to analyse data effectively and present findings persuasively.
  • Meticulous attention to detail ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and reconciliations are completed thoroughly every period end.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within teams as well as independently when required, always maintaining a dependable approach towards shared goals.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal acumen which helps foster harmonious relationships across diverse groups including finance teams, partners, auditors, and external advisors.
  • A calm demeanour under pressure paired with a can-do attitude that motivates others during challenging periods such as year-end close or audit season.
