A leading financial services organisation is seeking a Trust Accountant to join their highly regarded Corporate Trust Accounting team in Sydney CBD. * Work with a knowledgeable and supportive team dedicated to delivering high-quality accounting services for a diverse portfolio of trusts and managed investment funds. * Hybrid work set up. * 11 month MTC.

What you'll do:
  • Prepare periodic management accounts for a varied portfolio of clients, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all reporting activities.
  • Draft audited annual financial statements for both Special Purpose and General Purpose Tier-2 requirements, coordinating closely with auditors to ensure successful completion.
  • Oversee the preparation and lodgement of income tax returns as well as annual tax reports including AIIR and PAYGW in partnership with tax agents.
  • Develop budgets and liquidity forecasts tailored to client needs, supporting effective financial planning across multiple trusts.
  • Generate payment directions in accordance with trust agreements and regulatory requirements.
  • Compile Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS), maintaining compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Calculate distribution and withholding taxes for managed investment trusts (MITs) and selected securitisation trusts, ensuring precision in all computations.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing responsive service and clear communication throughout the engagement lifecycle.
  • Liaise effectively with key internal stakeholders such as Trustees, Trust Managers, Investment Managers, Group Finance, Group Risk, Wholesale Trustee Teams, Trust Management Teams, and Investment Management Teams to deliver seamless accounting services.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior staff members while assisting the team with ad-hoc queries from various stakeholders.

What you bring:
  • Degree qualified in accounting or economics or finance with a major in accounting is required for this position.
  • Qualified or currently working towards CA or CPA accreditation is highly desirable for candidates seeking this opportunity.
  • Registration as a BAS or Tax Agent would be considered an advantage but is not mandatory.
  • Demonstrated experience of 2–3 years within a chartered accounting firm provides an excellent foundation for success in this role.
  • Understanding of Australian tax legislation relating specifically to trusts is desirable for applicants interested in trust accounting positions.
  • Working knowledge of managed funds operations as well as securitisation processes would be beneficial for candidates applying for this vacancy.
  • Auditing experience is advantageous when preparing financial statements and coordinating audit activities within the trust sector.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel along with familiarity using Accounting Systems such as Xero is expected from applicants seeking this role.
  • Possession of a strong work ethic combined with a sense of accountability ensures reliability when managing sensitive financial data.
  • High attention to detail coupled with robust analytical skills supports effective reconciliation tasks across multiple client portfolios.
