Our client is seeking a Financial Controller to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to take the helm of a finance department, ensuring the smooth operation of all accounting functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for financial reporting, statutory compliance, and leading a small team. What you'll do:

As a Financial Controller, you will play a pivotal role in managing all accounting operations. Your excellent leadership skills will be utilised as you manage a small team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. You will be responsible for preparing insightful monthly financial reports, overseeing balance sheet reconciliations, and ensuring statutory compliance. Your expertise will be crucial in guiding the interpretation and application of accounting standards. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to influence policy by participating in the development of finance procedures.

  • Manage and supervise staff within the finance department
  • Prepare monthly financial reports providing insights into performance, risks, and opportunities
  • Oversee the preparation of balance sheet reconciliations
  • Prepare Annual Audited Statutory Financial Statements
  • Provide guidance on the interpretation and application of accounting standards
  • Assist in meeting all finance-related governance/compliance obligations
  • Present financial information to Board and committees
  • Participate in the development of finance policies and procedures
  • Act as a bridge between the finance department and other departments


What you bring:

As an ideal candidate for the Financial Controller position, you bring along professional accounting knowledge from both government and private sectors. Your experience with statutory financial reporting for various entities coupled with your understanding of Australian Accounting Standards sets you apart. Your ability to manage a small team while demonstrating high-level analytical skills is essential for this role. Moreover, your effective communication skills enable you to negotiate sensitively yet persuasively with a wide range of clients.

  • Professional accounting knowledge and experience
  • Experience with statutory financial reporting for trusts, companies, and public sector entities
  • Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, budgeting and reporting framework
  • Ability to manage and supervise staff within a small team
  • High level analytical and reporting skills
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Well-developed influencing skills including ability to negotiate sensitively and persuasively
  • Highly computer literate with advanced Excel skills
