The Payroll Officer role offers an exciting opportunity to manage and optimize payroll operations in a supportive and collaborative environment. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of business processes and payroll systems, along with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Responsibilities include overseeing the entire payroll process, calculating wages, initiating outsourcing processes, ensuring compliance with regulations, and conducting regular audits. Proficiency in payroll software, knowledge of regulations, and strong project management skills are essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for effective collaboration with stakeholders.

What you will do:

As a Payroll Officer, you will play a pivotal role in managing the effective processing of our client's Payroll operations. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the payroll process - from data collection to distribution - ensuring accuracy at every step. Your role will also involve liaising with external service providers to ensure smooth transitions during outsourcing processes. With your strong understanding of business processes coupled with technical proficiency in system management and data analysis, you will maintain up-to-date payroll records while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. Your ability to conduct regular audits will be crucial in maintaining high standards of accuracy and transparency.

  • Manage the entire payroll process from data collection to distribution, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Calculate and process wages for hourly employees based on timesheets, overtime, and any additional earnings or deductions
  • Process salaried employees' payroll, ensuring accurate calculation of salaries, benefits, and taxes
  • Initiate the tender process to outsource the payroll function, including vendor selection, contract negotiation, and implementation planning
  • Liaise with external payroll service providers to ensure a seamless transition and ongoing collaboration
  • Coordinate internal stakeholders, such as HR and finance teams, to facilitate the outsourcing process and address any concerns or challenges
  • Maintain payroll records and employee data in the payroll system, keeping information up-to-date and confidential
  • Ensure compliance with payroll regulations, including tax withholding, wage garnishments, and employment law
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax, including quarterly and annual reports, in accordance with regulatory deadlines
  • Conduct regular audits of the payroll function to verify data accuracy, compliance with company policies, and adherence to regulatory standards

What you will bring:

  • Proficiency in business management systems and payroll software is essential
  • Considerable prior experience in managing payroll tax, withholding tax, superannuation etc is required
  • Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail are necessary for accurately calculating wages, deductions, and taxes
  • Knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance requirements, including tax laws, wage and hour regulations, and labour standards is crucial
  • A strong understanding of statutory payroll obligations is needed
  • Strong project management skills are required for planning, executing, and monitoring complex initiatives
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure and effectively meet deadlines is essential
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in outsourcing processes, including vendor selection, contract negotiation, and transition management, is preferred
