Senior Payroll Officer

Our client is seeking a Senior Payroll Officer to join their team. This role offers the opportunity to work with one of Australia's oldest continuously operating companies. The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert in all aspects of processing payroll, ensuring that the company keeps up to date with changes in legislation. You will provide support to the Payroll Manager across more difficult areas as well as be an escalation point for other payroll staff.

What you will do:

As a Senior Payroll Officer, your role will be pivotal in ensuring that all payroll activities are processed accurately while adhering to relevant legislative regulations. You will take on a supervisory role, mentoring the Payroll Officer and acting as an escalation point for other payroll staff. Your expertise in payroll processing will be invaluable in overseeing end-to-end monthly and fortnightly payroll runs, ensuring that all employees receive their correct remuneration on time. Your responsibilities will also extend to maintaining accurate records of timesheets and leave entitlements from all locations. As a subject matter expert in payroll, you will provide high-level support to the Payroll Manager and offer advice, guidance, and training on more complex matters such as tax, superannuation, redundancies, and terminations.

  • Oversee and process end-to-end monthly and fortnightly payroll runs
  • Supervise and mentor Payroll Consultant
  • Ensure timesheets and leave entitlements from all locations are accurately recorded and maintained
  • Ensure all employees receive the approved benefits and allowances
  • Act as a payroll subject matter expert (SME), providing high level support to the Payroll Team Lead
  • Provide advice, guidance, and training to other Payroll Consultants on more complex matters such as tax, super, redundancy, terminations etc.
  • Act as payroll SME for projects as requested by Team Lead


What you bring:

  • Minimum 5 years’ demonstrated experience in a full function payroll environment
  • Extensive experience working in a fast-paced organisation and influencing leaders
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with remote teams
  • Confidence communicating with members at all levels of the organisation
  • Ability to prioritise tasks based on urgency and importance
  • Attention to detail – with particular concern for quality improvement in all undertakings
