An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Financial Accountant in a fast-growing, market-leading business located in Sydney CBD. This role offers an attractive salary of $110,000 + Super and the chance to work alongside an experienced and high-performing Finance team. The successful candidate will play an integral role in bringing our strategy to life, handling the payroll function and playing an instrumental role in personnel costs analysis and reporting on HR data.

What you'll do:

As a Financial Accountant, you will be at the heart of our finance team. Your primary responsibility will be managing the payroll function while also playing a crucial role in personnel costs analysis and reporting on HR data. You will handle everything from processing payroll to preparing regular workers' compensation and payroll tax returns. You will act as the first point of contact for all payroll inquiries and handle onboarding, terminations, and any employee changes. Your keen eye for detail will help you maintain staff employee records meticulously.

  • Process payroll, journals, and reconciliations, including year-end close activities.
  • Calculate and prepare regular worker's compensation and payroll tax returns, including annual reconciliations.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all payroll inquiries.
  • Handle onboarding, terminations, and any employee changes.
  • Maintain staff employee records, including superannuation, mileage, and leave.
  • Identify opportunities & execute changes for automation, system enhancements, and process efficiency's to optimise payroll operations.
  • Calculate relevant shared personnel services cost allocations, with confidentiality.
  • Review compensation-related P&L items and provide commentary.
  • Prepare and analyse reports related to regulatory reporting.


What you bring:

The ideal candidate for this Financial Accountant position brings a wealth of experience in payroll and compensation. With over 7 years in the field and at least 3 years in a leadership role, you have developed strong knowledge of Australian and New Zealand payroll legislation, tax regulations, and employment law. Your experience with Payroll & HRIS systems such as Netsuite or ADP is essential for this role. Your excellent communication skills enable you to collaborate effectively across teams.

  • 7+ years in payroll and compensation, including 3+ years in a leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of Australian and New Zealand payroll legislation, tax regulations, and employment law
  • Experience in Payroll & HRIS systems (Netsuite; ADP, or similar)
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to collaborate across teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Finance, Accounting or related field
