Senior Payroll Officer
We are partnering with a large, well-established organisation to recruit a Senior Payroll Officer into a high-performing People & Culture team. This role sits within a complex, high-volume payroll environment and requires strong technical capability across Awards, EBAs, and compliance. You will play a key role in delivering accurate payroll services while supporting system improvements and process optimisation initiatives.
The Role
Reporting to the Payroll & Compliance Manager, this role is responsible for delivering accurate, compliant, and timely payroll services within a large and complex organisation. You will act as a key point of contact for payroll queries while contributing to continuous improvement across systems and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Process high-volume payroll across multiple employee groups
- Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, Awards, and EBAs
- Manage payroll queries and provide clear, timely guidance to stakeholders
- Maintain payroll data accuracy and integrity
- Perform reconciliations and support reporting requirements
- Build strong relationships across HR, Finance, and wider business units
- Support payroll system upgrades, automation, and process improvements
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve payroll efficiency
About You
- Proven experience in a high-volume payroll environment
- Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, Awards, and EBAs
- Experience with large payroll systems (e.g. Ascender or similar)
- High attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
