Top-performing procurement functions revealed
Top global talent moving to Australia with the ability to share international best practices remain key targets in the procurement market this year.
Hiring for project procurement and logistics roles was subdued in a deflated market across Queensland in the last 12 months. Demand for category specialists in ICT, medical and financial services will remain high due to the transition from generalist to more specialised category areas.
Analysts and specialist consultants continue to be sought after as organisations are reviewing their procurement strategies and identify opportunities to implement best practice in their procurement functions, David Taylor, Associate Director, Procurement, Sydney commented.
The Queensland Government is investing heavily in procurement contractors, with many departments undertaking transformational projects to achieve customer centric procurement practices. Demand will remain high for category specialists, analysts and candidates familiar with government procurement practices. Hiring will continue to focus on contract roles as opposed to permanent placements.
Contract opportunities will continue to be abundant, especially through the New South Wales Government. This is mainly due to the implementation of numerous large-scale infrastructure projects in the region.
Commercially focused supply chain professionals who can implement and drive International Business Planning (IBP) will continue to command increased salaries. As more supply chain functions consolidate and restructure, change and project management experts will be in high demand.
Overall, businesses are increasingly looking for fully integrated logistics solutions and specialist candidates experienced in network optimisation and Continuous Improvement (CI). Import specialists, as well as strategically focused manufacturing and quality professionals able to share international best practice are likely to be highly sought after in the next 12 months.
