AO4 Appeals Support Officer

A leading government organisation in Brisbane CBD is seeking an Appeals Support Officer for a six-month contract, offering a competitive salary of $60 - $61 per hour. This role provides you with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting the appeals process within workers’ compensation, work health and safety, electrical safety, and labour hire licensing schemes.

What you'll do:

  • Provide comprehensive administrative and paralegal support to Principal and Senior Appeals Officers in managing appeals and external reviews before various tribunals and courts.
  • Assist Appeals Officers in proactively managing caseloads by undertaking pre-trial activities such as preparing briefs, checklists, arranging witnesses, issuing notices, booking meeting rooms, organising travel logistics, and ordering transcripts.
  • Manage incoming correspondence efficiently by recording, distributing, and updating information using digital solutions like Content Manager and QI systems.
  • Adhere strictly to quality standards and standardised practices to ensure all work meets legislative requirements and court-directed timeframes.
  • Liaise professionally with counsel, workers, employers, insurers, and their legal representatives regarding appeals issues of an administrative nature.

What you bring:

  • Demonstrated experience of 1-2 years in an administrative role within a professional office environment—ideally within legal or dispute resolution settings as a paralegal.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks effectively while managing multiple deadlines using digital solutions such as Content Manager or similar electronic file management systems.
  • Intermediate to advanced word processing skills coupled with strong data entry capabilities; proficiency in Adobe software is highly desirable.
  • Sound knowledge or ability to quickly acquire knowledge of procedures relevant to IM Court, QIRC, IC, QCAT or similar tribunals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills enabling you to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels while tailoring messages appropriately.
