APS6 Assistant Audit Manager

Our client, a large Federal Government organisation, is seeking an APS6 Assistant Audit Manager to join their team. This role presents an opportunity to be part of a significant project that will have a substantial impact on the Australian community.

What you'll do:

As an APS6 Assistant Audit Manager, your role will be pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of a significant project. Your duties will be to:

  • Provide operational support to end-to-end delivery of internal audits while working collaboratively with the agencies internal audit service provider including:
    • development of work plans, resource requirements and test programs
    • conduct of audit fieldwork
    • drafting and reviewing of audit reports, including presenting findings in a clear, concise and easy to understand manner
    • management of stakeholders
    • document and maintain accurate records
  • Assist with audit related business/process improvement initiatives and contribute to the provision of advice and assurance support to management on matters of governance and practice management.
  • Develop and support key internal and external relationships, including managing stakeholders to achieve work area and agency goals.
  • Support innovation and uphold continued improvement approach towards delivery of Audit and Assurance services, including review and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Draft strategic reports and briefing papers on complex issues for presentation to committees.
  • Monitor, action and assign items and tasks from group email inboxes, as per business rules.
  • Make and communicate decisions using good judgement, expertise and knowledge, governed by legislation, regulations, best practice principles or relevant operating instructions and procedures.
  • May be required to supervise a team to ensure high quality outputs, including the development of team members at lower classifications, building team capacity and encouraging career development.
  • Perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed from time to time.

What you bring:

  • A well-developed understanding of governance and assurance frameworks for the Commonwealth Government
  • Experience working within an internal audit function and applying the relevant International Professional Practices Framework (issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors), and industry-accepted/best practice controls frameworks to internal audit assignments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in a complex environment and successfully managing competing priorities and delivering quality results within agreed timeframes.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively whilst responding to stakeholder needs and expectations across a geographically dispersed network.
  • Analytical abilities to draw accurate conclusions and apply innovative solutions for the purpose of contributing to change and business improvement strategies.
  • Demonstrated personal integrity whilst achieving results within legislative and policy parameters.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly gain knowledge of Australian electoral law and practice.
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly gain knowledge of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 and related frameworks.
  • Strong skills in Word, Excel and Adobe Pro.
  • Membership with Institute of Internal Auditors or ISACA, or the ability to hold a professional membership.
