Cyber Security Engineer

This hands-on technical role is perfect for someone who thrives on making a tangible impact by implementing and optimising security controls across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. This role is based in the CBD, with Flexible working arrangements. We will only be considering Brisbane based candidates with full working rights for Australia.

To excel as a Cyber Security Engineer in this role, your background should include substantial hands-on experience managing Microsoft 365 security technologies within regulated environments.

• Design, implement, and optimise advanced security controls across the full Microsoft 365 suite—including Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Office 365, Defender for Cloud Apps, Sentinel, Entra ID, SharePoint Online, and collaboration tools—to ensure comprehensive protection.

• Configure Sentinel data connectors, develop analytics rules, and create automation playbooks to improve threat detection and streamline incident response processes.

• Implement and fine-tune Defender policies aligned with industry best practices to harden identity security and minimise attack surfaces within the M365 environment.

• Remediate findings from regular security assessments and posture reviews by applying secure baselines and configuration standards throughout the organisation’s cloud infrastructure.

• Conduct vulnerability triage activities and support remediation efforts to address identified risks promptly while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

• Apply Zero Trust principles to identity and access management by supporting privileged access models and enforcing least privilege across all relevant systems.

• Develop detection use cases and analytics rules that enable proactive monitoring of identity and collaboration risks within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

• Support incident investigation activities by creating automation workflows that facilitate rapid response to emerging threats or suspicious activity.

• Document configurations, standards, deployment patterns, and runbooks to ensure repeatable processes are established for ongoing operational excellence.

• Work collaboratively with Security Operations as well as platform and identity teams to translate risk findings into actionable technical solutions that can be transitioned smoothly into business-as-usual operations.
