Senior Consultant, Injury Management

Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Consultant Injury Management to join a highly respected public sector organisation in Brisbane, working within a supportive and knowledgeable People, Capability and Culture team. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about making a positive impact on the wellbeing of employees by providing expert injury and illness management services. You will play a pivotal part in helping staff remain at work or return safely following illness or injury, all while contributing to an inclusive and fair workplace culture. The organisation is committed to fostering flexibility, professional growth, and a collaborative environment where your expertise will be valued and your contributions recognised. If you are looking for a meaningful role that offers both challenge and reward, this could be the next step in your career. * Play a key role in supporting the health, safety, and wellbeing of staff across a large and diverse organisation by delivering expert injury management advice and case management services. * Enjoy flexible working opportunities within a collaborative team environment that values knowledge sharing, professional development, and continuous improvement. * Contribute directly to building an inclusive workplace culture where every employee’s wellbeing is prioritised, and your input helps shape best practice policies and procedures.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Consultant Injury Management based in Brisbane, you will be instrumental in guiding staff through the complexities of injury or illness recovery within a large public sector setting. Your day-to-day activities will involve working collaboratively with managers and external partners to deliver tailored rehabilitation plans that prioritise employee wellbeing. You will have the opportunity to influence policy development by reviewing existing processes and recommending improvements that align with best practice standards. By managing cases from start to finish—ensuring compliance with workers’ compensation legislation—you will help create an environment where staff feel supported during challenging times. Your ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences will be essential as you present updates, facilitate discussions around reasonable adjustments, and contribute insights that drive continuous improvement. This position offers the chance to make a tangible difference in people’s lives while advancing your own professional skills within a nurturing team.

  • Provide comprehensive case management services for ill or injured workers, ensuring each case is managed with empathy, professionalism, and adherence to relevant legislation.
  • Facilitate effective rehabilitation and return to work strategies tailored to individual needs, promoting timely outcomes and supporting ongoing recovery.
  • Collaborate closely with managers to develop reasonable adjustment plans that enable staff to remain at work or return safely after illness or injury.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders such as insurers, medical practitioners, legal representatives, and occupational service providers to coordinate holistic support for injured employees.
  • Support common law claim interactions by working alongside insurers or their representatives in consultation with senior colleagues.
  • Review and update internal policies, procedures, and intranet content related to injury and illness management to ensure information remains current and accessible.
  • Undertake projects aimed at improving service delivery and enhancing overall injury management outcomes across the organisation.
  • Analyse complex issues related to injury management, identify emerging trends, and develop evidence-based solutions in partnership with key stakeholders.
  • Present clear, concise reports and recommendations to senior leaders and other audiences as required, ensuring information is tailored appropriately.
  • Champion initiatives that foster a positive safety culture throughout the organisation.

What you bring:

To excel as a Senior Consultant Injury Management you will bring proven experience managing complex cases involving workplace injuries or illnesses—ideally within large organisations where collaboration across multiple departments is essential. Your background should include designing tailored rehabilitation plans that balance individual needs with organisational goals while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. Strong relationship-building skills are crucial; you will need empathy when supporting affected staff members as well as confidence when engaging external partners such as medical professionals or insurers. Your analytical abilities will allow you to interpret data trends effectively so you can recommend practical improvements for service delivery. Clear communication—both written and verbal—is vital since you’ll regularly interact with senior leaders as well as frontline staff. A commitment to continuous learning ensures you stay abreast of industry developments while contributing positively within a supportive team environment.

  • Demonstrated experience providing high-quality case management services for ill or injured workers within complex organisational environments.
  • Proven ability to design and implement effective rehabilitation and return to work strategies that are sensitive to individual circumstances while meeting legislative requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills enabling you to build trusting relationships with internal teams as well as external stakeholders such as insurers, healthcare professionals, legal advisors, and occupational service providers.
  • Comprehensive understanding of best practice approaches in injury management processes along with up-to-date knowledge of workers’ compensation legislation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills allowing you to present complex information clearly to varied audiences including senior leaders.
  • A collaborative approach that fosters teamwork, knowledge sharing, and mutual support within multidisciplinary groups focused on employee wellbeing.
  • High level of personal accountability demonstrated through consistent achievement of organisational objectives while maintaining commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Analytical mindset capable of identifying trends in injury data and developing evidence-based recommendations for process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience updating policies or procedures related to health, safety or injury management would be highly regarded.
  • Tertiary qualifications in allied health, workplace health & safety or related disciplines are desirable but not mandatory.
