Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Manager to join a pivotal initiative shaping the future of educational infrastructure across Queensland.

This 12-month contract role offers you the chance to play a central part in establishing consistent and equitable standards for learning environments, ensuring every student has access to essential facilities. You will be at the heart of a strategic project, working within a supportive and agile team, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to deliver foundational outputs that will inform state-wide policy and investment decisions. With a highly competitive hourly rate and the chance to make a meaningful impact on education equity, this position is ideal for someone who thrives in structured yet flexible environments and is passionate about driving positive change.

  • Be instrumental in defining minimum standards for educational infrastructure, directly influencing future planning and resource allocation across all Queensland state schools.
  • Enjoy a collaborative work environment with flexible working opportunities, where your organisational skills and stakeholder management expertise will be highly valued.
  • Benefit from a generous hourly rate of $116 per hour plus superannuation, reflecting the importance and scope of this strategic project.

What you'll do:

As Project Manager – Educational Infrastructure, you will take ownership of coordinating all aspects of this significant initiative’s preliminary phases. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve orchestrating complex schedules, facilitating meaningful stakeholder consultations, managing specialist consultants, and ensuring robust governance practices are followed. You will be relied upon to produce high-quality documentation that supports decision-making at every level while fostering collaboration between diverse teams. Success in this role means delivering foundational outputs that set the stage for long-term improvements in educational equity across Queensland’s schools. Your ability to balance multiple priorities with empathy and attention to detail will be crucial as you help shape policies that benefit students statewide.

  • Coordinate daily project activities by managing schedules, allocating tasks, and tracking progress towards key milestones to ensure timely delivery of preliminary phase outputs.
  • Oversee comprehensive project documentation including plans, schedules, risk registers, and progress reports to maintain transparency and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitate targeted consultation sessions with internal stakeholders such as school leaders and staff, ensuring their insights are captured and integrated into project deliverables.
  • Support the organisation and facilitation of workshops and review meetings to validate findings, build consensus around proposed approaches, and foster a sense of shared purpose among participants.
  • Prepare regular project reporting for senior leadership and governance groups, providing clear updates on progress, risks, issues, and mitigation strategies as required.
  • Ensure all project deliverables are evidence-based, quality-assured, and aligned with departmental expectations through diligent application of governance frameworks.
  • Manage procurement processes for external consultants, overseeing onboarding activities to ensure seamless integration into the project team.
  • Coordinate inputs from both internal team members and external consultants to maintain high standards of schedule adherence and output quality.
  • Monitor contracted activities closely to guarantee delivery within approved scope, timeframe, and budget constraints while upholding best practice standards.
  • Identify potential risks or issues early in the process and propose effective mitigation strategies to safeguard project outcomes.

What you bring:

To excel as Project Manager – Educational Infrastructure, you will bring substantial experience leading complex projects within government or large organisations—preferably those focused on infrastructure or policy development. Your background should demonstrate your capacity for building consensus among diverse groups while maintaining meticulous oversight over documentation processes. You are known for your interpersonal sensitivity when engaging stakeholders at all levels—from school staff through executive leadership—and your commitment to transparent communication ensures everyone remains informed throughout each phase. Your familiarity with governance frameworks allows you to navigate compliance requirements confidently while supporting continuous improvement efforts. Above all else, your passion for contributing positively to public sector outcomes sets you apart as someone who is both dependable and empathetic in their approach.

  • Demonstrated experience managing infrastructure projects within government or similarly complex organisational settings—ideally involving education, planning, architecture or policy development.
  • Proven track record coordinating multidisciplinary projects with multiple stakeholders and concurrent workstreams in a collaborative manner.
  • Exceptional organisational skills combined with strong problem-solving abilities that enable you to manage competing priorities effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills evidenced by your ability to prepare clear project documentation, reports, correspondence, and facilitate productive discussions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of project governance principles, management tools (such as risk registers), stakeholder engagement techniques, and delivery methodologies relevant to large-scale initiatives.
  • Relevant qualifications in project management or related disciplines are desirable but not mandatory; practical experience is highly regarded.
  • A current QLD Blue Card (or eligibility to obtain one) is required due to the nature of the work within educational settings.
