What you'll do:
As Construction Manager in Brisbane, you will be entrusted with overseeing the successful delivery of complex asset improvement projects within the Infrastructure Planning & Capital Delivery Group. Your daily responsibilities will involve managing site-based construction activities from inception through commissioning and handover phases. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams—internal operations staff as well as external contractors—to ensure seamless integration of upgrades into existing assets. By conducting thorough inspections across mechanical, electrical, civil disciplines and reviewing detailed design documents alongside commissioning plans prepared by contractors, you will guarantee that all works meet stringent quality standards. Your role also includes facilitating the transfer of asset information into organisational systems while coordinating operation and maintenance documentation handovers. To excel in this position, you must proactively audit contractor compliance with safety protocols and environmental management plans while providing timely progress reports covering health & safety metrics, operational risks, scheduling milestones, engineering challenges and stakeholder engagement outcomes. Your ability to foster strong inter-personal connections across diverse teams will be key in incorporating feedback from multiple groups into project delivery.
- Oversee the construction management of assigned capital projects by reporting directly to the relevant Project Manager and ensuring all site activities align with project plans and operational requirements.
- Provide expert advice on risks, potential mitigation methods, and relevant hold points related to each project while maintaining clear communication with internal teams.
- Facilitate effective interfaces between site-based construction activities and operational teams to ensure minimal disruption to day-to-day operations during upgrades or new builds.
- Conduct Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil inspection and commissioning activities throughout construction phases including constructability reviews of detailed designs.
- Review Commissioning Plans and Inspection & Test plans prepared by contractors; witness Factory and Site Acceptance Tests as well as fabrication inspections.
- Assist in preparing Commissioning Reports and Project Finalisation Reports; review handover documents and drawings for accuracy before transfer into asset information systems.
- Coordinate site construction activities with various internal groups such as Operations, Safety, Communications, Customer Strategy & Planning to incorporate relevant concerns into project delivery.
- Ensure all site construction activities adhere strictly to safety protocols, water quality standards, environmental risk mitigation strategies including isolation plans and safe work procedures.
- Audit contractor compliance against management plans relating to safety, water quality, environmental protection; oversee rigour of hold point reviews and signoff processes for high-risk activities.
- Provide regular updates on progress covering workplace health & safety, operational risks, schedule adherence, engineering issues, stakeholder engagement; liaise with legal teams for permits/approvals.

Your technical proficiency spans electrical/mechanical/civil domains supported by deep familiarity with Australian/New Zealand construction standards governing these works. You possess advanced commissioning management capabilities—developing/auditing robust project plans/procedures that mitigate risks efficiently throughout all phases from design review through finalisation reporting. Your expertise extends beyond technical acumen: you are adept at collaborating within multi-disciplinary teams comprising consultants/contractors/internal stakeholders ensuring alignment towards common goals. High-level organisational skills enable you to juggle competing priorities without compromising on quality or compliance while your interpersonal abilities facilitate constructive dialogue across diverse groups—including regulatory authorities—ensuring smooth negotiation/liaison processes. Written communication excellence ensures precise documentation/reporting underpinning recommendations made during site inspections/investigations. Your capacity for acquiring/applying corporate policies (health/safety/environment/quality) further strengthens your suitability for this critical role.
- Appropriate trade qualification in electrical, mechanical, civil or structural engineering coupled with substantial experience managing water infrastructure projects valued between $3m-$15m+.
- Minimum five years’ proven experience as a Construction Manager delivering complex multi-disciplinary engineering projects within the water industry.
- Valid Class C motor vehicle driver’s licence enabling travel between sites as required for inspections or meetings.
- Sound understanding of water supply infrastructure including dams, treatment plants, storage facilities and transport assets; demonstrable knowledge of Australian/New Zealand construction standards.
- Experience in commissioning management within mechanical/electrical/civil fields preferably related to water industry projects; ability to develop/audit detailed project plans/procedures for risk management.
- Substantial knowledge of water infrastructure/treatment systems combined with familiarity regarding principles/processes involved in successful project/work package delivery.
- Expertise in quality assurance practices plus environmental management/workplace health & safety protocols applicable to infrastructure projects; ability to conduct site inspections/investigations effectively.
- Proven track record collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams (consultants/contractors) towards achieving shared objectives; high-level organisational/time management skills handling multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Highly developed verbal communication/interpersonal skills enabling effective liaison/influence/negotiation with stakeholders (external/internal clients/regulatory authorities/team members).
- Advanced written communication/computer literacy skills supporting accurate documentation/reporting/recommendation provision; ability to acquire/apply corporate policies/procedures (health/safety/environment/quality).
