APS3 Engagement Officer

Our client, a large federal government organisation based in Canberra, is seeking Engagement Officers to join their team. An opportunity to be part of a significant project that will have a substantial impact on the Australian community. As a Engagement Officer, you will be working in a highly collaborative manner, supporting team leads (located in state and territory offices).

What you'll do:

As an APS3 Engagement Officer you will be working in a highly collaborative manner, supporting team leads (located in state and territory offices) to engage with stakeholders to realise maximum benefits for Indigenous Australians. This will involve travelling, sometimes to remote localities. Work in this area can include liaising with partners to arrange meetings at the community level to:

  • Understand local challenges to electoral participation.
  • Deliver voter educations sessions and enrolment activities.
  • Identify and assist candidates to apply for temporary election polling positions.
  • Obtain relevant approvals to enter community for engagement activities and ensure local protocols are followed.

Regular duties will include:

  • Assisting staff to develop and actively manage key internal and external relationships, including collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Provide high quality and timely advice internally on business processes, specifically as they relate to Indigenous outcomes.
  • Contribute to decision making using professional judgement.
  • Contribute to evaluation activities and support other continual improvement activities based on Quality Management Systems.
  • Be a strong contributor to the positive team culture to ensure high quality outputs.
  • Perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed from time to time.

What you bring:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills including the ability to tailor messages and information for a variety of audiences of varying seniority.
  • Organised, with strong ability to contribute to activities, including attention to detail and delivering results.
  • Ability to identify problems and work to resolve them.
  • A strong commitment to working harmoniously within a team to achieve positive results.
  • An understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • An ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

Desirable:

  • You know about or can quickly learn about legislation and programs and policies.
