The University of Adelaide is seeking a Senior Workplace Relations Advisor to join its dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a large and successful university renowned for its commitment to innovation and excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make significant contributions to industrial and employee relations, providing expert advice on complex workplace matters, managing case resolutions, and promoting a positive workplace culture.

About the role
As a Senior Workplace Relations Advisor, your role will be pivotal in shaping the workplace environment. Your responsibilities will include providing expert advice on intricate workplace matters, resolving disputes and ensuring compliance with industrial agreements, legislation, and University policies. Your ability to manage complex cases effectively will be crucial in resolving workplace complaints and disputes.

Reporting to the Manager, Workplace Relations, you will influence organisational culture through proactive conflict resolution and engagement initiatives. Additionally, your expertise will contribute to designing training programs that enhance staff capabilities in workplace relations.

  • Provide expert advice on high-level, complex workplace relations matters
  • Manage complex case management tasks, including assessing, investigating, and resolving workplace complaints and disputes
  • Establish productive relationships with unions and other employee representatives
  • Ensure compliance with industrial agreements, relevant legislation and University policies
  • Support the review and implementation of a contemporary case management and HR policy framework
  • Promote a positive workplace culture through proactive conflict resolution and employee engagement strategies
  • Design training programs to enhance staff skills in workplace relations and case management

What you bring:
The ideal candidate for the Senior Workplace Relations Advisor position will bring:

  • Extensive knowledge of workplace relations legislation and contemporary industrial relations principles
  • Experience in managing complex cases involving discrimination, harassment, equal opportunity and unfair dismissal
  • Experience in conducting thorough enquiries and managing complex investigations
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the use of contemporary IR/HR practices.
  • Superior influencing skills with the ability to successfully influence senior stakeholders
  • High level verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven negotiation, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
