About the WH&S Coordinator


Due to growth and multi-campus expansion, Xavier College is looking for a Work Health and Safety Coordinator to join the team and help achieve their goal of maintaining a safe and healthy workplace for all staff, students and volunteers.

Reporting to the Risk and Compliance Manager, the Work Health and Safety Coordinator will actively provide an effective WHS service within the context of the legislative requirements applicable to the role, which will ensure College safety obligations are met across all three campuses.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the Risk and Compliance Manager in the implementation of WHS policies and procedures across the College.
• Undertake WHS risk assessments, audits, and inspections on a day-to-day basis, and as required.
• Investigate hazards, incidents, injuries, or near misses and liaise with the Risk and Compliance.
• Ensure all personnel, including staff, contractors, and volunteers, are inducted and trained in the safe use of equipment.
• Provide guidance and advice to enable maintenance and preventive maintenance of facilities to be undertaken to manage and mitigate WHS risks.
• Organise WHS and other training for all staff in line with Catholic Education South Australia and Catholic Safety Health and Welfare SA training needs analysis.
• Investigate reported injuries, incidents, and near-miss hazards, ensuring hazard reports are produced, follow-up investigations and corrective actions are promptly undertaken.

Key Requirements:

• Formal Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Work Health and Safety and/or relevant demonstrated knowledge and experience in a comparable role.
• Demonstrated highly developed knowledge and experience with WHS legislation and practice.
• High-level organisational skills, ability to plan, problem-solve, prioritise and proactively manage time effectively.
• Strong stakeholder management both internally and externally.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
• Ability to work with limited supervision, as well as effectively and collaboratively as a member of the team.
