Health, Safety & Wellbeing Coordinator

Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator to join a highly respected public sector organisation in Brisbane. This role is pivotal in ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing needs of the entire department are met, while also supporting leaders to engage meaningfully with these important initiatives. Working within a supportive People, Capability and Culture team, you will play a key part in coordinating operational safety and wellbeing functions across the organisation. The position offers the chance to make a real difference by contributing to a fair, safe, and inclusive workplace for all employees. You will benefit from flexible working opportunities, access to professional development, and the satisfaction of knowing your work directly supports the wellbeing of colleagues throughout the department. * Play a central role in promoting health, safety, and wellbeing across a large public sector organisation, making a tangible impact on employee welfare every day. * Enjoy flexible working arrangements and ongoing training opportunities that support your professional growth and work-life balance. * Join a collaborative team environment where your expertise is valued and your contributions help shape an inclusive and supportive workplace culture.

What you'll do:

As a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator, you will be instrumental in upholding high standards of care for all employees within this prominent public sector organisation. Your daily activities will involve managing critical communication channels related to workplace health and safety matters, administering essential logs for accurate reporting, overseeing digital platforms like Salvus for hazard management, and facilitating key meetings that drive engagement across teams. You will also play an active part in transitioning systems to new platforms such as Integrum while supporting ongoing wellbeing campaigns that reach every corner of the organisation. Success in this role comes from your ability to organise information systematically, communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders, maintain rigorous attention to detail in reporting tasks, and collaborate effectively within a dedicated team focused on creating an inclusive environment.

  • Manage the health, safety, and wellbeing mailbox by responding promptly to correspondence and ensuring all queries are handled efficiently.
  • Administer the incident running log with meticulous attention to detail, maintaining data quality and accuracy for comprehensive workplace health and safety reporting at all levels.
  • Oversee Salvus administration by managing hazards and incidents on behalf of managers when no investigation is required, ensuring timely closure of cases.
  • Coordinate HSW network meetings including those for the TSA network, fostering engagement among stakeholders and supporting effective communication channels.
  • Generate regular workplace health and safety reports that inform monitoring activities, decision-making processes, and executive-level updates.
  • Facilitate the transition from Salvus workflows to Integrum activities by supporting process changes and ensuring smooth handover of responsibilities.
  • Assist with delivering wellbeing communications to employees, including organising annual initiatives such as the influenza vaccination programme.
  • Support the implementation of department-wide operational safety functions by providing specialist advice to leaders and staff members alike.
  • Contribute to the delivery of wellbeing initiatives that enhance employee experience and promote a positive organisational culture.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in the People, Capability and Culture team to ensure best practice approaches are consistently applied.

What you bring:

In this Health, Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator role, your proven background in utilising workplace health and safety IT systems will be invaluable as you manage digital records efficiently. Your strong command of Microsoft Office tools ensures seamless handling of correspondence, data analysis, document preparation, knowledge sharing via SharePoint, and effective remote teamwork through Teams. Your interpersonal skills enable you to connect empathetically with colleagues at all levels while your written abilities allow you to produce clear reports that inform strategic decisions. Organisational skills are crucial as you maintain logs vital for compliance purposes. Experience gained from similar roles—whether supported by formal qualifications or hands-on learning—will empower you to contribute positively within this collaborative environment. Your sensitivity towards others’ needs helps nurture a culture where everyone feels supported.

  • Demonstrated experience using work health and safety IT systems with particular familiarity with Salvus being highly desirable for this position.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook for communication management, Excel for data handling, Word for documentation creation, SharePoint for information sharing, and Teams for virtual collaboration.
  • Highly developed oral communication skills enabling you to convey complex information clearly to both individuals and groups at all levels of the organisation.
  • Exceptional written communication abilities allowing you to prepare systematic reports that enhance efficiency across multiple functions.
  • Proven capacity to organise information methodically which supports accurate record-keeping and streamlined workflow processes.
  • Ability to work dependably both independently on assigned tasks as well as collaboratively within a supportive team setting.
  • A considerate approach towards engaging with colleagues from diverse backgrounds which fosters an inclusive atmosphere throughout the workplace.
  • Tertiary qualifications in workplace health and safety or related disciplines are highly regarded but not mandatory; relevant experience is equally valued.
  • A commitment to upholding confidentiality when dealing with sensitive employee information related to health or wellbeing matters.
