The Skilled Migration stream or General Skilled Migration program is a pathway relevant to skilled migrants who are not currently sponsored by an Australian employer but hold particular skills that are required in Australia. The GSM program has two different subclasses - 189 and 190.
These subclasses are both permanent visa options that will allow individuals (and their families) to live and work in Australia without restriction.
In order to proceed with visas under this pathway, an applicant must be able to show evidence they have achieved a points score of at least 60 in the Points Test (which is based upon an applicant’s skills, age, English language ability, employment experience, qualifications and state/territory nomination).
There are three stages when applying for the Subclass 189 visa application and an additional fourth step should you wish to apply for the Subclass 190:
- Achieve a positive Skills Assessment
- Lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) where you indicate the points you have achieved
- Obtain State/Territory nomination (only for Subclass 190)
- Apply for the visa once an invitation is offered by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP)
Robert Walters immigration team is able to assist with each of the necessary steps required to obtain the Skilled Migration visa, as well as guidance and advice throughout all stages of the process. The team’s aim is to make applying for Australian Permanent Residence a seamless and stress-free experience.
