About our requirements
The Platform Engineer must have the following skills and experience:
- Infrastructure as code deployment experience onto Kubernetes (ideally with Kustomize).
- Certificated Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) certification.
- Kubernetes platform deployment experience (ideally with Kubespray).
- Strong Ansible skills.
- Git source control knowledge.
- Experience using Atlassian Jira/Confluence to manage work activities.
- Knowledge of Apache Proxy with mod_security.
About the Project
The Platforms Engineer position, sits within a team of highly skilled platform engineers, within the Department’s Technology and Platform Solutions (TPS) division, part of the ITS branch.
The team has operational accountability and responsibility for designing, deploying, monitoring and patching the Department’s foundational applications. The team is also responsible to work with the various agile teams to deliver new and updated business applications into production, the majority of new applications being deployed onto Kubernetes.
All activities are required to follow modern Infrastructure as Code practices, leveraging automated CI/CD pipelines for deployments.
The Department’s production environment is run on Department's managed hardware (i.e. all production infrastructure is on premise). Cloud infrastructure is leveraged but only for development activities. The Department’s network is classified as Protected, so security risk identification and mitigation is a key focus area for the team, following the Australian Government’s ISM.
This procurement is being initiated to procure an appropriately skilled Platforms Engineer to meet project and BaU requirements. Upcoming project work includes; Managed File transfer product implementation, productionising an AWS Landing Zone, internal LLM Chatbot deployment, Gitlab Implementation/migration and strategic API gateway delivery.
