Senior Legal Counsel - General Insurance - 12 Month Contract

You will be joining a market leading insurance company as a Senior Legal Counsel focusing on general insurance work in Sydney or Melbourne, initially on a 12 month contract with a strong likelihood of extension.

The company is a leading insurance group in the ANZ region with a strong company focus on diversity, flexibility, and collaboration.


About the Role
Responsibilities include;

  • Drafting and negotiating insurance distribution agreements and you will be involved in structuring these arrangements which vary from licensee-to-licensee arrangements, authorised representatives and other models
  • Provide legal advice to the Consumer division, as requested, including advice on distribution structuring, product wordings, Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act, the Insurance Contracts Act and the General Insurance Code of Practice
  • Providing regulatory advice (with a commercial understanding of the legislative regime) on a range of issues relating to all forms of retail distribution which could include advice on anti-hawking, add-on insurance and design and distribution
  • Work with the regulatory and government relations teams to advocate for legislative change and comment on new legislation

About you

You have:

  • +6 years PQE with legal experience working in financial services
  • Knowledge of Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act and its application in the insurance sector is highly regarded
  • Strong general insurance, or reinsurance legal experience is highly regarded
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
