What you'll do:

As Legal Counsel Australia and New Zealand at Robert Walters, you will be immersed in a broad spectrum of commercial legal work that underpins the delivery of recruitment services across both countries. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with colleagues locally as well as internationally.

• Manage the Legal ANZ inbox efficiently, delegating legal matters among the team to ensure timely resolution of queries and requests.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts for recruitment services and related professional services across Australia and New Zealand, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
• Review private and public sector client service agreements, master service agreements, tender documentation, variations, extensions, non-disclosure agreements, and statements of work with meticulous attention to detail.
• Assess requested amendments to Robert Walters’ Terms and Conditions, providing clear advice on contractual implications for the business.
• Evaluate marketing contracts including sponsorship agreements, competition terms and conditions, event terms and conditions, ensuring all documents meet organisational standards.
• Advise on general privacy queries and issues in Australia and New Zealand in collaboration with the Group Privacy Lawyer to maintain compliance with data protection laws.
• Prepare reporting, applications, renewals for Australian Labour Hire Licences and Recruitment Agency Licences; update licence registers for the ANZ region as required.
• Provide guidance on fee disputes and contractual interpretation to support commercial decision-making within the business.
• Draft correspondence and contribute to policy writing in response to legislative changes affecting the organisation’s operations.
• Manage modern slavery compliance by preparing annual statements and presenting on key legal issues when required.

What you bring:

• Australian qualified solicitor with current practising certificate demonstrating 3-4 years post-qualification experience in commercial law.
• Proven ability to work dependably with limited supervision while maintaining excellent work ethic and proactive approach to tasks.
• Meticulous attention to detail when reviewing complex contracts or drafting legal documents for internal or external stakeholders.
• Effective communicator both written and oral who can explain legal concepts clearly in plain English to non-legal colleagues.
• Demonstrated capacity to engage empathetically with stakeholders across different departments using highly developed interpersonal skills.
• Solutions-based mindset focused on providing commercially sound advice that supports business objectives without compromising compliance.
• Ability to prioritise workflow efficiently under pressure within a fast-paced corporate environment while remaining courteous and considerate towards others.
• Solid understanding of contractual interpretation including formation, structure, negotiation strategies relevant to recruitment services.
• Experience researching legislation independently; keeping up-to-date with changes in law affecting employment or commercial practice in Australia or New Zealand is desirable but not essential.
• Proven track record of escalating complex matters appropriately or referring them to other business partners when necessary.
