Our client is seeking a Media and Communications Deputy with a strong news journalism background to contribute to the day-to-day operations of a busy Communications and Media Team including media management, managing the production of engagement and campaign materials, and writing articles and creating content for a range of publications, campaigns and websites. This role is critical in ensuring high-quality media representation and clear and effective member communications. This is an impactful role in a not-for-profit environment, with a focus on healthcare. It is ideal for candidates with journalism expertise looking to leverage their skills in media issues management and public communication.

What you'll do:
As a Media and Communications Deputy, you will be responsible for monitoring relevant media and current affairs developments, writing media releases and responding to media enquiries, developing media and campaign plans, and identifying media opportunities.
You will be responsible for allocated projects and campaigns. You will work with internal stakeholders to deliver engaging articles and content, producing accurate, easily understood materials and publications that effectively communicate the organisation’s purpose, and support the team to manage a busy design and production schedule.

  • Drive media engagement, preparing media releases, media responses and managing news-related media strategies.
  • Monitor relevant current affairs and political landscapes to shape proactive media responses.
  • Apply news-related journalism skills to craft compelling articles and communications that resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Deliver engaging articles and content for publications, member and campaign materials, and assist with the preparation of internal reports and representation on behalf of the team.
  • Working with our communications designers to manage a busy production schedule of publications, member and campaign materials.
  • Take responsibility for allocated projects and campaigns.
  • Backfill the Communications and Media Manager during periods of leave.

What you bring:
The ideal candidate for this Media and Communications Deputy role will bring a wealth of experience from a background in news journalism, media relations or communications. Your experience in media issues management or news journalism will be key to your success in this role. Your strong research abilities coupled with your exceptional writing skills will enable you to tell compelling stories that resonate with our audience.

  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in journalism, public relations, communications or similar discipline
  • Experience in media issues management or significant news journalism experience
  • Strong research, writing, story-telling experience
  • Ability to convey complex information in simple language to tight deadlines
  • Ideally healthcare or not-for-profit background
