Plant Metallurgist - 12-month contract

Our client, a well‑established base-metals mining company operating a world‑class processing facility, is seeking an experienced Plant Metallurgist to join their team on a 12‑month FIFO contract (from Brisbane or Townsville). This role offers the opportunity to step into a key technical position with two direct reports, contributing to plant performance, optimisation and continuous improvement.

About the Role

In this position, you will play a key part in driving day‑to‑day concentrator performance. You’ll support operations with clear technical guidance, coordinate plant trials and improvement initiatives, and ensure accurate metallurgical reporting and reconciliation. With two direct reports, you’ll also have the opportunity to develop your leadership capability while influencing operational outcomes. There is a fully catered camp on site - with gym, pool and en-suite rooms, as well as Telstra reception.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor plant performance and provide technical direction to processing crews
  • Develop and communicate daily operating strategies
  • Lead, support and mentor two direct reports
  • Conduct metallurgical accounting, reporting and reconciliation
  • Execute plant improvement initiatives, including trials and laboratory test work
  • Assist with concentrate logistics and compliance with transport specifications
  • Maintain a strong commitment to safe work practices and operational excellence

About You

  • Degree in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering
  • 2+ years site‑based metallurgy experience (preferably in base metals flotation)
  • Solid understanding of crushing, grinding, flotation, thickening, dewatering and paste fill
  • Strong data analysis skills, ideally with PI System experience
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct plant trials, analyse results and deliver technical reports
  • Confident communicator with strong attention to detail
  • Leadership capability or a desire to develop in this area
  • Manual driver’s licence
