- Estimate manufacturing labour content, assembly processes, tooling amortisation, and overhead allocation.
- Benchmark current product costs against industry norms and alternative design/material/sourcing approaches.
- Identify cost-down opportunities without compromising quality through material substitutions, design simplifications, component rationalisation, and process efficiencies.
- Prepare clear cost breakdowns suitable for internal reviews and supplier negotiations.
- Delivering costed BOMs for selected products, providing comparative cost models and identifying cost-reduction opportunities.
Required experience & skills:
- Proven experience in manufactured product cost modelling across electrical/electronic accessories or electromechanical products.
- Strong understanding of BOM costing, real cost drivers, electronics/plastics manufacturing, and offshore manufacturing.
- Ability to reverse-engineer costs from finished products, drawings, and specifications.
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to build cost models from scratch.
- Comfortable working with imperfect data and making reasonable assumptions.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
- A background in product engineering, manufacturing engineering, or cost engineering.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision while delivering practical and analytical insights.
- A strong understanding of how product costs impact business outcomes.
