Robert Walters are working closely with one of Australia's leading renewable and utilities businesses on a permanent Procurement Category Specialist position responsible for materials and network equipment.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Procurement Category Specialist to join a leading renewable and utilities organisation in Sydney's CBD. This role is perfect for someone who has had exposure to material and network equipment categories, driving efficiencies and achieve value for money. The successful candidate will have the chance to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, perform market analysis, strategic sourcing, negotiation and execution of contracts with new and existing suppliers. This role offers an excellent platform for continuous professional development within a supportive working environment.


What you'll do:

As a Procurement Category Specialist, you will be at the forefront of managing the material and network equipment categories to optimise efficiency and value. You will be responsible for developing robust sourcing strategies based on thorough market research, stakeholder requirements, as well as your own intuition. Your role will involve monitoring spend patterns, evaluating supply alternatives, developing negotiation strategies for complex supply arrangements, providing insightful market analysis, managing risks effectively, measuring supplier performance consistently, while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Develop and implement robust sourcing and category strategies based on market research, intel and stakeholder requirements to drive efficiencies
  • Monitor spend and develop strategies to minimise uncontrolled spend
  • Evaluate supply alternatives through various procurement methods
  • Develop and execute negotiation strategies on complex supply arrangements
  • Provide market and competitor analysis, insights, including key implications and recommendations
  • Identify and manage commercial, contractual, operational and ethical risks
  • Measure supplier performance and adherence to agreed terms over the contract lifecycle
  • Develop a culture of innovation and continuous improvement with internal and external stakeholders


What you bring:

The ideal Procurement Category Specialist will bring a wealth of commercial acumen, an analytical mindset, and a strategic approach to the role. You will have the ability to work under pressure, set priorities, and manage competing deadlines and demands. Your attention to detail will be second to none, and you will have the ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team. With experience in Engineering Services/Network Equipment category, you will bring your strong background in strategic procurement, sourcing, category management with knowledge of consumer and competition law to the table.

  • Commercial acumen, analytical mindset and an ability to think strategically
  • Ability to work under pressure, set priorities, manage competing deadlines and demands
  • Attention to detail with ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team
  • Experience in Engineering Services/Network Equipment category
  • Qualifications in a relevant discipline (Engineering, Law, Supply/ MCIPSA) or 8-10 years’ experience in procurement
  • Strong background in strategic procurement, sourcing, category management with knowledge of consumer and competition law
  • Advanced negotiation skills with strong stakeholder engagement skills
  • Exceptional communication skills with advanced strategy planning skills (including project management)
  • Proven experience in developing robust category plans and sourcing strategies
