Business Development Manager
This globally recognised manufacturer of electrical safety equipment is entering the Australian market, offering a rare, senior BDM role focused on strategic growth. Leveraging your deep network within electrical utilities and major contractors, you will unlock key decision-makers and drive market entry from the ground up. This is a relationship-driven position offering high autonomy, trust, and the chance to shape a local presence while supported by a collaborative international team.
What you'll do:
As Business Development Manager, you will be instrumental in accelerating the company’s entry into the Australian electrical utilities landscape. Your day-to-day will centre around leveraging your extensive network to open doors with key industry players—securing meetings with decision-makers who matter most. You’ll lead engaging presentations that showcase internationally proven products tailored for local needs. By facilitating hands-on product trials within target organisations, you’ll create tangible value for clients while building momentum towards long-term supply agreements. Your strategic mindset will guide expansion plans across multiple states as you identify high-value opportunities aligned with growth objectives. Success in this role means being seen as a trusted advisor who builds enduring partnerships based on mutual respect rather than short-term transactions. You’ll work closely with both local colleagues and international teams to ensure every trial is supported seamlessly from introduction through conversion. Your insights into market trends will help shape future strategies as the business continues its journey of scaling up in Australia.
- Leverage your established relationships within electrical utilities, major contractors, and commercial or industrial stakeholders to secure immediate access to key decision-makers across Australia.
- Identify and engage influential contacts—including procurement leads and senior executives—to position products effectively within regulated and safety-critical environments.
- Lead compelling presentations, product demonstrations, and commercial discussions that facilitate product trials with targeted organisations.
- Secure and manage product trials with high-potential customers, ensuring seamless implementation through close collaboration with internal technical and operational teams.
- Convert successful trials into long-term supply agreements and recurring revenue streams by nurturing trust-based client partnerships.
- Develop and execute a state-by-state expansion strategy beginning in New South Wales before extending into Queensland and Western Australia, aligning activities with broader organisational growth objectives.
- Provide realistic market insights, opportunity assessments, and detailed revenue forecasts to inform leadership decisions and refine go-to-market strategies.
- Build and sustain trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across the industry, acting as a reliable commercial partner rather than a transactional sales contact.
- Represent the organisation professionally at industry events, forums, and meetings to enhance visibility and credibility within the Australian market.
- Regularly provide feedback on market conditions, competitor activity, and product positioning opportunities to help shape ongoing business development efforts.
What you bring:
To excel as Business Development Manager in this unique context, you will bring substantial experience from within the electrical utilities or contracting sectors—ideally having worked directly with regulated products or services. Your reputation precedes you: clients know you as someone who delivers on promises while maintaining integrity at every step. You have cultivated an enviable network of contacts who trust your judgement because they’ve seen firsthand how thoughtfully you approach their challenges. Your ability to navigate complex stakeholder landscapes sets you apart; whether presenting at boardroom level or supporting technical teams during product trials, your interpersonal skills shine through. You understand what it takes to introduce new offerings into established markets—balancing strategic vision with practical action so that every initiative moves forward purposefully. Above all else, your commitment to building genuine connections ensures that every partnership endures beyond initial contracts.
- Demonstrated experience working within electrical utilities, electrical contracting firms, or closely related sectors such as electrical safety or infrastructure—ideally with exposure to regulated environments.
- An active network of established relationships across utility companies or major contractors that enables immediate access to senior decision-makers.
- Proven ability to secure high-level meetings with influential stakeholders and facilitate complex commercial discussions that lead to tangible outcomes.
- Strong commercial judgement combined with sound business acumen—enabling you to assess opportunities realistically while prioritising those aligned with organisational goals.
- Experience introducing or growing technically specialised products in new markets or entrepreneurial settings where ambiguity is common but opportunity abounds.
- Comfort operating autonomously while remaining highly dependable—delivering agreed outcomes without requiring close supervision or prescriptive direction.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills underpinned by professional maturity; you are known for your credibility within the industry as well as your ability to foster trust-based partnerships.
- Strategic thinking paired with hands-on execution capability; you can see the bigger picture while also rolling up your sleeves when needed to deliver results.
- Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—that allow you to represent the organisation credibly at all levels internally and externally.
- A results-oriented mindset balanced by empathy for client needs; you thrive on creating win-win solutions that build loyalty over time.
