Practice Manager

Save job

Join a top performing law firm with a team of over 40. With continued growth, they are seeking a Practice Manager to oversee daily operations and manage the HR, compliance, and business support functions of the firm. Whilst previous experience in law firms is preferable, it is not essential.

This is a pivotal role ensuring the business runs efficiently so our legal professionals can focus on delivering excellent outcomes for clients.
Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the firm’s operational, administrative, and practice management functions to ensure smooth day-to-day running across all practice area
  • Manage HR operations including payroll inputs, onboarding/offboarding, contracts, and compliance with Fair Work and employment legislation
  • Act as the primary contact for suppliers and outsourced services, ensuring service quality and cost-effectiveness
  • Oversee daily financial administration, including supplier invoicing, reconciliations, expense management, and support of trust and office account processes
  • Team reporting, budgets, forecasting, and analysis
  • Prepare and review financial and operational reports to support Directors with strategic and performance-based decision making
  • Work with Directors to implement business plans, monitor KPIs, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain firm-wide compliance with risk, privacy, WHS, and legal industry regulatory obligations
  • Act as the firm’s internal lead for technology coordination, liaising with the external IT provider to ensure reliable and secure system performance
  • Coordinate internal IT requirements and escalate issues or project needs as required
  • Oversight of legal technology projects, upgrades, and compliance (e.g. practice management systems, MFA, cybersecurity, data privacy)

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience in a senior operations, office, or practice management role within a law firm or professional services environment
  • Strong financial acumen, with proven experience in accounts management, reporting, budgeting, and supporting financial governance
  • Working knowledge of legal trust accounting principles and familiarity with practice management systems
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret and communicate financial and operational data clearly
  • Demonstrated experience managing external suppliers, IT systems, and outsourced services
  • Strong understanding of HR processes, compliance, and legal industry standards (Fair Work, NES, confidentiality obligations)
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity when handling sensitive information
  • Effective leadership, communication, and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage competing demands
  • Proactive, solutions-focused, and calm under pressure
  • Project management skills.
