Enterprise Architect - AI
Contract: 12 months plus Extensions Rate: DOE Location: Brisbane Flex: Hybrid
A leading organisation in the mining sector is seeking an experienced AI Enterprise Architect to provide architectural leadership for a transformative Agent Orchestration and Management Control Tower initiative. This senior-level opportunity offers you the chance to shape the future of AI and automation across a complex, federated enterprise environment, ensuring safe, scalable, and governed delivery of intelligent agents. You will play a pivotal role in defining the target architecture, establishing robust governance frameworks, and integrating cutting-edge observability and intervention mechanisms.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Define the target architecture, reference patterns, and strategic roadmap for an enterprise Agent Control Tower aligned with industry standards and operational risk requirements.
- Translate conceptual designs into implementable architectures covering platforms, integrations, governance structures, and runtime controls to support safe deployment of AI agents.
- Architect and standardise processes for agent registration, approval, validation, policy binding, ensuring lifecycle governance is embedded within federated delivery pipelines.
- Establish permission-based discovery and cataloguing systems for agents and tools across diverse business units to promote transparency and control.
- Develop orchestration patterns that enable controlled invocation of agents, secure tool access, and seamless inter-agent interactions while enforcing enterprise guardrails through control points such as gateways or proxies.
- Design end-to-end observability solutions for agents including telemetry collection, health monitoring, cost tracking, and performance analysis to ensure comprehensive oversight.
- Define assurance workflows capable of detecting deviations from expected behaviour or policy breaches while enabling rapid response through intervention mechanisms like throttling or kill-switches.
- Integrate the control tower with existing observability platforms, security systems, IT service management tools, data repositories, and cost management solutions for unified operational visibility.
- Create canonical data models and event schemas to facilitate consistent reporting and effective operational responses across the organisation.
- Coach federated delivery teams on architectural standards and governance practices while driving adoption of guardrails to maintain architectural integrity at scale.
The ideal Candidate
- Extensive experience (8–12+ years) in enterprise or platform architecture within complex environments such as resources, mining or heavy industry where regulatory compliance is paramount.
- Proven track record designing platform control planes as well as registries or catalogues that support large-scale agent management initiatives.
- Deep understanding of integration architecture principles including secure connectivity between disparate systems within an enterprise context.
- Demonstrated ability to architect observability solutions that provide actionable insights into system health, performance metrics, cost efficiency, and compliance status.
- Strong background in security-by-design approaches ensuring all solutions meet stringent safety requirements from inception through operation.
- Experience operating successfully within federated delivery models where collaboration across distributed teams is essential for achieving organisational goals.
- Exceptional executive-level communication skills enabling you to convey complex architectural concepts clearly to both technical audiences and senior stakeholders alike.
- Ability to develop assurance workflows that detect policy breaches or system drift while implementing intervention mechanisms with full auditability for traceability purposes.
- Familiarity with integrating control towers into broader IT ecosystems including observability platforms, ITSM tools, data management systems, and cost tracking solutions.
- A collaborative mindset with a passion for coaching others on best practices in architecture governance while nurturing an inclusive team environment.
