- Be at the forefront of optimising a sophisticated Workday ecosystem, leveraging your technical and functional expertise to deliver actionable solutions that reduce costs and enhance operational efficiency.
- Collaborate directly with senior leadership, including CIOs and Finance executives, presenting your findings and recommendations in a way that influences decision-making at the highest level.
What you'll do:
As a Workday Technical Strategist and Diagnostic Lead (Contract), you will play a central role in shaping the future state of a highly complex Workday environment. Your day-to-day activities will involve conducting thorough audits of system configurations, analysing licensing usage against actual needs, and designing strategic roadmaps that address both immediate issues and long-term goals. You will work closely with senior executives to present your findings in accessible terms, ensuring that technical recommendations are understood and embraced at all levels. Success in this role requires not only deep technical acumen but also strong interpersonal skills as you collaborate across departments to implement sustainable improvements. Your contributions will help streamline operations, optimise costs, and set the stage for ongoing excellence within the organisation’s digital infrastructure.
- Conduct a comprehensive diagnostic assessment of the current Workday configuration across all modules, rapidly identifying technical debt and underutilised features that may hinder optimal performance.
- Audit the existing licensing footprint versus actual utilisation, developing data-driven strategies to consolidate modules and reduce unnecessary expenditure.
- Design a detailed 12–24 month technical and functional roadmap that addresses friction points within the system and prepares the business for seamless handover to permanent stakeholders.
- Translate complex technical findings into clear, executive-level business cases tailored for CIOs and Finance leaders, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.
- Engage collaboratively with cross-functional teams to understand pain points, gather requirements, and ensure proposed solutions are practical and sustainable.
- Streamline system architecture by recommending best practices for module integration, particularly focusing on Projects, Finance, HCM, and Adaptive Planning.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement within the Workday ecosystem, supporting efforts to move beyond basic maintenance towards proactive optimisation.
- Provide expert guidance on managing project-based revenue streams and complex workforce scheduling challenges unique to heavy industry environments.
- Support knowledge transfer initiatives by documenting findings and recommendations clearly for future stakeholders.
- Maintain open communication channels with key stakeholders throughout the engagement period to ensure transparency and buy-in for proposed changes.
What you bring:
To excel as a Workday Technical Strategist and Diagnostic Lead (Contract), you will bring extensive experience navigating large-scale Workday environments where multiple modules interact seamlessly. Your background should include hands-on involvement in system audits focused on identifying inefficiencies or underutilised features. You will have demonstrated success in developing strategic plans that guide organisations through periods of change while minimising disruption. Your ability to communicate complex ideas simply is essential when engaging with senior leadership; empathy and consideration underpin your approach as you build trust across teams. Familiarity with industry-specific challenges—particularly those found in heavy industry settings—will enable you to offer nuanced advice tailored to unique operational contexts. Above all, your commitment to collaboration ensures that every stakeholder feels supported throughout the transformation journey.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting high-level diagnostics of complex Workday ecosystems encompassing multiple modules such as HCM, Financials, Adaptive Planning, Projects, and more.
- Proven track record in auditing licensing footprints versus actual utilisation within enterprise systems, delivering actionable strategies for cost reduction.
- Expertise in designing comprehensive technical and functional roadmaps that resolve system friction points over medium- to long-term horizons.
- Ability to translate intricate technical concepts into clear business cases suitable for executive audiences including CIOs and Finance leaders.
- Strong collaborative skills enabling effective engagement with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and drive consensus around proposed solutions.
- Deep understanding of the Workday Foundation Data Model (FDM) as well as cross-module integration between Projects, Finance, HCM, and related modules.
- Experience supporting process improvement initiatives aimed at moving organisations from maintenance mode into proactive optimisation.
- Knowledge of project-based revenue management and workforce scheduling complexities within heavy industry sectors such as engineering or construction is highly regarded.
- Excellent documentation skills for capturing findings and recommendations in formats accessible to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
