Unix Platform Engineer - IRIS

A leading organisation is seeking a Unix Platform Engineer to join its Infrastructure team. This is a key role focused on building, maintaining and optimising critical UNIX/Linux platforms that support essential business operations. You’ll drive best-practice design, standardisation and automation, ensuring systems remain secure, scalable and highly available.

What you’ll do:

  • Build and support enterprise UNIX/Linux platforms to ensure high availability and performance.

  • Manage patching, upgrades, lifecycle, compliance and preventative maintenance.

  • Partner with security to remediate vulnerabilities and meet policy standards.

  • Automate processes using Bash/Python and tools like Ansible.

  • Drive performance, scalability and reliability improvements.

  • Support DR readiness, monitoring integrations and documentation.

  • Act as an escalation point for incidents and collaborate with internal teams and vendors.

What you bring:

  • 3+ years’ UNIX/Linux administration (AIX, RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).

  • Experience with enterprise compute (e.g. IBM Power Systems) and storage.

  • Strong scripting (Bash/Python) and automation (Ansible); IaC exposure desirable.

  • IRIS database administration experience (highly regarded).

  • Knowledge of virtualisation (LPAR), HA/DR and security frameworks (ISO27001/ISM).

  • Experience with monitoring tools and capacity planning.

  • Strong documentation and stakeholder communication skills.

  • Relevant degree or certifications (RHCE, LPIC-2, IBM AIX) advantageous.
