AWS DevOps Engineer
We are recruiting on behalf of a large, well-established Australian bank currently undergoing significant cloud and platform transformation. This organisation operates at scale, invests heavily in technology, and is building modern, secure, and automated cloud platforms on AWS.
The Role:
You will play a key role in the design, build, automation, and operation of AWS and Kubernetes (EKS) platforms, ensuring solutions are secure, compliant, scalable, and fit for purpose.
Working as part of a high-performing cloud platform team, you will contribute to core foundational services, delivery patterns, and continuous improvement initiatives across the AWS environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and automate Kubernetes (EKS) platforms
- Own the design and automation of AWS foundation services, including security, compliance, and cost optimisation
- Lead the build, deployment, and operation of automated AWS-enabled application environments
- Contribute to projects focused on improving cloud platforms, tooling, patterns, and developer experience
- Apply Agile, Lean, and design thinking principles in solution delivery
- Coach and mentor engineers, uplifting platform and delivery capability
- Engage with stakeholders to gather requirements, plan delivery, and manage expectations
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex cross-platform and cross-infrastructure issues
- Ensure end-to-end compliance, security, and automation best practices are embedded
- Support capacity planning, performance monitoring, and platform stability
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging AWS and Kubernetes technologies
About You:
You are a strong platform-focused DevOps engineer with deep AWS and Kubernetes experience and a passion for automation and operational excellence.
Required experience:
- 5+ years hands-on experience with AWS
- Strong Kubernetes / EKS design and operational experience
- Experience with microservices architectures
- Strong knowledge of AWS architecture styles, cloud design patterns, security and compliance automation
- Terraform expertise
- Scripting or development experience (e.g. Terraform, Bash, Python, NodeJS, Ruby, etc.)
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments
- Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Relevant AWS and/or Kubernetes certifications (highly regarded)
