General Manager of Information Technology
A leading Retail group is seeking a General Manager of Information Technology to join their Melbourne-based team. This newly created role offers you the opportunity to shape the future of IT for a business that operates over 100 stores and employs thousands of people across multiple states.
As General Manager of Information Technology, you will play a central role in driving the success of the organisation’s digital transformation journey. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve managing a small talented IT team while overseeing vendor relationships to ensure seamless delivery of both projects and business-as-usual activities. You will work closely with senior leaders to prepare budgets, set performance objectives, and implement training programmes that keep your team at the forefront of technological advancements
- Manage resources within the IT team effectively, ensuring deliverables are met through careful planning and collaborative effort.
- Develop a deep understanding of the organisation’s IT systems landscape and foster strong relationships with both internal staff and external vendors.
- Oversee vendor partnerships by managing contracts to ensure they are fit for purpose, costs are appropriate, and deliverables consistently meet organisational standards.
- Provide governance and oversight on IT projects to guarantee that business requirements are fulfilled and projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Engage regularly with business stakeholders to understand pain points where IT can provide support, prioritising project backlogs based on organisational needs.
What you bring:
To excel as General Manager of Information Technology, you will bring proven expertise in leading teams within large-scale environments—ideally within hospitality or retail sectors. Your background should include hands-on experience managing complex technology landscapes involving cloud platforms like Azure as well as integration frameworks such as APIs or ETL processes. Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for finance functions alongside human capital management (HCM) tools will be invaluable
- Proven experience managing IT teams in environments similar in size or complexity is essential.
- Comprehensive knowledge of modern IT systems including Azure cloud platforms, integration concepts such as APIs, ETL processes, SFTP protocols; data management; finance systems (ERP); HR systems (HCM).
- Demonstrated success delivering IT solutions in complex settings with finite resources and competing priorities.
- Experience implementing process automation by transforming manual spreadsheet-based workflows into efficient automated processes.
- Strong interpersonal skills enabling effective communication across departments.
