This role offers you the chance to make a significant impact by supporting and leading the origination, development, and execution of corporate transactions. You will be empowered to build and nurture both internal and external networks, manage a diverse loan portfolio, and play a key part in shaping the bank’s approach to risk and ESG management.

The organisation is committed to fostering a supportive environment where your expertise in business development, credit structuring, and stakeholder engagement will be valued.

  • Play a pivotal role in driving business growth by leveraging your network and expertise in corporate banking to originate and deliver high-value transactions across various industries.
  • Contribute directly to the bank’s commitment to responsible finance through active involvement in ESG risk assessment and implementation of robust risk management strategies.

What you'll do:

As an Associate Director Corporate Banking based in Sydney, you will play an integral role in expanding the bank’s presence within the local market by identifying new business opportunities and delivering tailored financial solutions. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with colleagues across departments to originate, structure, and execute complex and diversified credit transactions for corporate clients. You will be entrusted with managing a dynamic loan portfolio that spans multiple industries while ensuring prudent risk diversification. Your ability to analyse ESG factors will contribute significantly to responsible lending practices. Success in this position requires you to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels—both internally and externally—while demonstrating exceptional communication skills. By providing thoughtful guidance throughout each stage of the transaction process, you will help foster long-term client relationships built on trust and mutual success.

  • Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships to identify new business opportunities and expand the client base within the corporate banking sector.
  • Support or lead the origination, due diligence, approval, and implementation of complex corporate transactions tailored to client needs.
  • Develop comprehensive solutions that demonstrate a deep understanding of clients’ businesses, proactively managing a forward-looking business pipeline.
  • Arrange, structure, and execute credit products for corporate transactions including bilateral, club, and syndicated facilities.
  • Grow and manage a diversified loan portfolio with careful attention to optimal composition across geography, industry sectors, and risk profiles.
  • Identify potential risks for both clients and the bank, implementing effective risk management strategies that align with organisational objectives.
  • Conduct thorough analysis as part of transaction assessment processes, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with multiple stakeholders including legal teams, documentation specialists, and financial modellers to ensure seamless transaction delivery.
  • Provide clear communication and guidance throughout all stages of deal execution, maintaining transparency with clients and colleagues alike.
  • Undertake additional duties as required by the organisation to support overall business objectives.

What you bring:

To excel as an Associate Director in Corporate Banking, you will bring extensive experience from within Australia’s syndicated loan or broader corporate banking landscape. Your background should include hands-on involvement in structuring complex credit facilities—ranging from bilateral agreements to large-scale syndications—supported by advanced analytical abilities. You are adept at navigating legal documentation requirements while maintaining meticulous attention to detail throughout every stage of deal execution. Your interpersonal skills allow you to communicate clearly with diverse groups of stakeholders; whether presenting recommendations or negotiating terms. A genuine commitment to responsible finance is reflected in your familiarity with ESG frameworks. Above all else, your collaborative mindset enables you to build lasting connections both inside the organisation and across the wider business community.

  • A tertiary degree in a relevant discipline such as finance, economics, or business administration is essential for this role.
  • At least eight years of proven experience within the local syndicated loan or corporate banking market is required, demonstrating your ability to deliver results in complex environments. Preference for Real Estate/Property Expertise.
  • Demonstrated expertise in legal documentation related to corporate lending transactions ensures accuracy and compliance throughout deal execution.
  • Advanced financial modelling skills enable you to assess transaction viability and optimise deal structures for clients’ benefit.
  • Strong risk analysis capabilities are necessary for identifying potential challenges and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills are vital for engaging effectively with multiple stakeholders including clients, colleagues, legal advisors, and regulators.
  • Experience managing diverse portfolios across different geographies and industries highlights your adaptability within changing market conditions.
  • A track record of successful business development through network building showcases your collaborative approach to growing client relationships.
  • Familiarity with ESG principles allows you to integrate sustainability considerations into transaction assessments.
  • A dependable work ethic combined with sensitivity towards client needs ensures positive outcomes for all parties involved.
