What you'll do:
As a Client Service Officer – Payments Operations based in Sydney, you will play a pivotal role in supporting both domestic and global financial institutions by ensuring smooth execution of payment operations. Your day-to-day activities will involve acting as the trusted first point of contact for your assigned client portfolio—responding empathetically to queries about services or products while maintaining clear communication throughout every interaction. You will process various types of payments with great care; validate instructions through diligent checks; collaborate seamlessly with colleagues across departments; handle complex settlement processes; perform detailed reconciliations; facilitate essential account changes; identify risks early; and contribute ideas for ongoing improvements. Success in this role means consistently delivering dependable service that strengthens client trust while upholding rigorous compliance standards.
- Manage and nurture a dedicated portfolio of 40 clients by providing responsive, considerate support tailored to their individual needs.
- Respond promptly and thoughtfully to client enquiries regarding services, financial products, fees, and conditions to ensure clarity and satisfaction.
- Process a wide range of payments including domestic transfers, international payments, BPAY transactions, and Direct Entry Files with meticulous attention to detail.
- Validate client instructions through careful review and call-backs while ensuring strict compliance with signatory requirements at all times.
- Coordinate closely with internal teams to guarantee timely and accurate execution of all client instructions across multiple platforms.
- Handle equity transfers, foreign exchange bookings, and settlement processes such as Delivery Versus Payment (DVP), cash settlements, and on-market transactions with reliability.
- Perform thorough account reconciliations while managing high-volume, high-value transactions efficiently and accurately.
- Facilitate account openings, closures, term deposits, and bank audit confirmations by following established procedures with sensitivity to client timelines.
- Identify potential operational risks proactively and contribute positively to mitigation strategies that protect both clients and the organisation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by sharing insights gained from daily interactions with clients and internal stakeholders.

- Previous experience working within financial services environments—particularly in payment operations or client services within banking—is highly regarded for this position.
- Demonstrated expertise using banking platforms combined with hands-on experience in payment processing ensures you can hit the ground running.
- Familiarity with CHESS (Clearing House Electronic Subregister System) and Austraclear systems is advantageous for handling settlement processes effectively.
- Experience processing International payments as well as Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), Direct Entry (DE), and BPAY transactions is beneficial.
- A strong orientation towards client service paired with excellent written and verbal communication skills enables you to build rapport easily.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while remaining calm under pressure supports success in busy periods.
- Meticulous attention to detail when validating instructions or reconciling accounts helps maintain accuracy across all tasks.
- A collaborative approach when working with internal teams fosters positive outcomes for both clients and colleagues alike.
