This role offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution to the economic and social wellbeing of Queenslanders by supporting best practice administration of revenue, penalty debt, fines, and grants. You will be part of a forward-thinking team that values collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth. With flexible full-time arrangements and exposure to a variety of complex and impactful projects, this position is ideal for someone who thrives in an inclusive environment where your expertise is valued and your input shapes the future direction of revenue administration. The organisation is committed to fostering a constructive workplace culture that encourages innovation, supports career progression, and prioritises excellent client service. * Enjoy flexible working opportunities within a supportive and knowledgeable team dedicated to delivering trusted administration and excellent client service across Queensland. * Benefit from ongoing training opportunities and career development pathways designed to help you grow both personally and professionally while making a real difference in the community. * Work in an inclusive environment that values collaboration, transparency, and accountability, ensuring your contributions are recognised as part of a wider mission to support Queensland’s economic recovery and long-term prosperity.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Revenue Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how revenue is administered across Queensland. Your day-to-day activities will involve providing expert guidance on complex legislative matters, preparing influential rulings, mentoring colleagues, and ensuring all documentation meets rigorous compliance standards. You will be entrusted with researching emerging issues in taxation, royalties, penalty debts, grants, and revenue administration—translating your findings into actionable advice for both internal teams and external clients. By fostering strong relationships with stakeholders at every level, you will help drive collaborative solutions that support organisational goals. Your ability to analyse practices critically will enable you to identify innovative strategies for improvement while contributing positively to team culture. Success in this role means not only delivering high-quality outcomes but also nurturing an environment where learning is shared openly and everyone feels empowered to contribute their best.

  • Provide comprehensive written and verbal advice to stakeholders on complex interpretation and practice issues relating to legislation administered by the office and related laws.
  • Undertake detailed research, prepare insightful papers, and make well-considered recommendations on interpretation and practice matters.
  • Prepare authoritative public rulings and other practice statements that clearly set out the Commissioner’s interpretation for relevant legislation.
  • Issue private rulings on select matters under the Duties Act 2001, ensuring clarity and compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Handle legislated rulings involving intricate issues such as corporate reconstruction with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Coach and mentor division staff through thorough review and quality assurance of draft advice, recommendations, and decisions.
  • Review internal and external materials—including approved forms and web content—to ensure they meet all legislative standards.
  • Proactively maintain up-to-date knowledge of law and practice relevant to the office’s administered legislation through ongoing research.
  • Analyse current practices critically, identifying strategies that align with business directions now and into the future.
  • Actively contribute to team development by building a positive, participative culture that supports divisional objectives.

What you bring:

Your background as a Senior Revenue Officer equips you with deep expertise in interpreting legislation within complex regulatory environments. You bring finely honed analytical abilities that allow you to dissect challenging scenarios methodically while communicating your insights clearly through both written reports and verbal presentations. Your interpersonal skills shine when collaborating with colleagues or guiding less experienced staff members—ensuring knowledge is shared generously throughout the team. You have demonstrated your capacity for maintaining rigorous compliance standards across all documentation while remaining agile enough to adapt quickly as new challenges arise. Your commitment to ongoing professional development ensures you remain at the forefront of industry trends—enabling you to offer informed advice that supports organisational objectives. Above all else, your integrity underpins every action you take: from managing sensitive information responsibly to making decisions grounded in fairness and transparency.

  • Demonstrated experience in statutory interpretation with the ability to navigate complex legislative frameworks effectively.
  • Exceptional analytical skills enabling you to assess multifaceted issues thoroughly before formulating recommendations or decisions.
  • Outstanding written communication skills for preparing clear advice, public rulings, reports, and policy documents tailored for diverse audiences.
  • Excellent verbal communication abilities allowing you to explain technical concepts simply when advising stakeholders or coaching colleagues.
  • A proven track record of mentoring or coaching others within a professional setting—fostering growth through constructive feedback.
  • Experience reviewing materials for compliance with legislative requirements while maintaining high standards of governance.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development demonstrated by proactive learning about changes in law or best practice methodologies.
  • Strong relationship-building skills that enable effective collaboration with both internal teams and external partners.
  • A high degree of professionalism reflected in your approach to accountability, transparency, risk management, and ethical decision-making.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (such as law, business or accounting) are highly regarded but not mandatory; equivalent experience will also be considered.
