AO5 HR Project Officer
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Human Resources Project Officer to join a respected public sector organisation based in the heart of Brisbane CBD. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, values flexibility, and is eager to make a meaningful impact on both people and processes. With a focus on supporting key HR projects, you will play an integral part in shaping frameworks, implementing best practices, and providing expert guidance across a range of human resources functions. The organisation is committed to fostering a supportive workplace where your openness to learn, positive attitude, and ability to build strong relationships are truly valued. If you are looking for a role that offers variety, autonomy, and the chance to contribute to significant organisational change, this six-month contract could be the ideal next step in your career.
What you'll do:
- Collaborate closely with HR colleagues and stakeholders to design, implement, and refine frameworks that address current organisational needs and future growth.
- Provide accurate and timely advice on human resources matters by interpreting relevant legislation, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance across all activities.
- Support the recruitment process by assisting with onboarding activities such as training sessions, induction programmes, and workplace health and safety briefings for new starters.
- Lead or participate in key HR projects aimed at improving operational efficiency, including the redevelopment of the organisation’s intranet platform to enhance internal communications.
- Contribute to the review and update of existing policies and procedures so they remain current, effective, and aligned with legislative requirements.
- Utilise systems such as Aurion, Sharepoint, and Content Manager to manage HR data efficiently while ensuring information integrity and confidentiality at all times.
- Build strong working relationships with internal teams by demonstrating initiative, empathy, flexibility, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Assist in managing work health and safety (WHS) initiatives by coordinating training sessions and supporting compliance efforts throughout the organisation.
- Act as a point of contact for HR-related queries from staff members while maintaining a warm, approachable manner that encourages open dialogue.
- Work autonomously when required but also contribute positively as part of a wider team dedicated to achieving shared goals.
What you bring:
- Demonstrated experience working within government or large public sector environments where understanding of complex structures is essential for success.
- A solid background in generalist human resources roles with proven achievements in delivering results across multiple HR functions.
- Strong knowledge of relevant employment legislation coupled with the ability to interpret policies accurately when providing advice or making recommendations.
- Experience managing or supporting projects related to HR frameworks or process improvements within medium-to-large organisations.
- Proficiency using HR information systems such as Aurion along with familiarity with Sharepoint and Content Manager for document control purposes.
- Excellent relationship-building skills underpinned by empathy, active listening abilities, and a genuine commitment to supporting colleagues at all levels.
- A positive attitude towards learning new concepts quickly combined with adaptability when faced with changing priorities or unexpected challenges.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills enabling you to explain complex information clearly while maintaining sensitivity towards others’ perspectives.
- Ability to work autonomously without close supervision yet remain dependable as part of an interdependent team focused on shared objectives.
