Collaborate across teams to shape future-state architecture and deliver actionable insights for a leading University on Sydney.
Purpose of the Role
The Senior Data Specialist plays a vital role in supporting a large-scale data transformation program, contributing to both strategic insights and the foundational rebuild of core data systems and infrastructure. Working within and agile technical data development team, this role is responsible for supporting data cleanse and migration efforts, engaging stakeholders on metric and reporting requirements, validating data integrity, and supporting the redesign of data architecture for future-state solutions.
This position will work closely with data engineers, governance specialists, architects, and business stakeholders to ensure that analytical deliverables are accurate, actionable, and aligned with enterprise data objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and define metric-level requirements and KPIs aligned with business needs.
- Translate business requirements into analytics specifications that inform future-state reporting and data architecture design.
- Contribute to the design of future-state data solutions by advising on data usage patterns, aggregation logic, and presentation formats.
- Perform detailed data profiling, quality assessment, and source-to-target mapping to ensure consistent and clean data migration.
- Support the end-to-end data cleanse and migration process by validating data integrity, reconciling discrepancies, and assisting with transformation logic.
- Partner with the Senior Data Engineers to embed analytics needs into evolving data architecture and pipeline structures.
- Conduct root cause analysis on data issues and liaise with the Data Governance Specialist to resolve governance and quality gaps.
- Assist in developing frameworks and repeatable models to support scalable reporting across new infrastructure.
- Participate in Agile activities and a disciplined program management structure to ensure iterative delivery of analytical capabilities in alignment with governance and engineering workstreams.

Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or related roles within complex data ecosystems.
- Proven experience supporting data cleanse and migration initiatives in enterprise environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement experience with a focus on gathering and validating metric-level requirements.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and modern analytics toolsets
- Familiarity with data architecture principles and contribution to analytics requirements for data infrastructure design.
- Experience with data validation, reconciliation, and data quality assurance processes.
- Exposure to Agile delivery methodologies and working in cross-functional project teams.
