What you'll do:
As Principal Advisor Strategy and Planning you will play an integral role in shaping how the organisation delivers on its mission to promote confidence in Queensland’s building industry. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you engaging with senior leaders to develop forward-thinking strategies that align with organisational goals while ensuring robust operational plans are in place. You will oversee comprehensive performance reporting cycles, preparing detailed reports that drive transparency and informed decision-making. By providing expert advice on planning frameworks within government contexts, you will empower teams across the business unit to deliver results efficiently. Your ability to foster positive relationships with stakeholders will be crucial as you represent your team on key issues. - Actively participate in the design, implementation, and review of strategic frameworks, operational plans, and performance reporting activities to meet evolving organisational needs.
- Take responsibility for managing key strategic and operational planning processes, including regular evaluation of performance indicators against desired outcomes.
- Lead the preparation of annual, quarterly, and ad hoc performance reports that inform decision-making at all levels of the organisation.
- Contribute to specific projects aimed at enhancing strategy development, planning effectiveness, and reporting accuracy across the business unit.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to management teams and staff on best practices in planning and reporting within Queensland Government frameworks.
- Represent the team on relevant issues related to planning and reporting both internally and externally as required by organisational priorities.
- Build positive relationships with colleagues across divisions as well as external stakeholders by fostering effective networks, consulting widely, negotiating thoughtfully, and collaborating for shared success.
- Apply your knowledge of strategy development, planning methodologies, performance measurement systems, and continuous improvement principles to achieve business goals.
- Manage project timelines effectively by setting clear objectives, allocating resources appropriately, identifying risks early on, and evaluating progress towards milestones.
- Ensure compliance with legislative requirements including Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (QLD), Public Sector Ethics Act 1994 (QLD), Public Sector Act 2022 (QLD), as well as internal policies.

- Demonstrated experience building positive relationships with colleagues across teams as well as external stakeholders through effective networking, consultation, negotiation, and collaboration.
- Proven ability to apply advanced knowledge of strategy development processes, operational planning techniques, performance measurement systems, and reporting frameworks within complex organisations.
- Track record of successfully managing projects or people by setting clear goals, allocating resources wisely, mitigating risks proactively, and evaluating outcomes against established benchmarks.
- Consistent delivery of objectives set by yourself or others even when faced with challenges or obstacles, showing resilience under pressure while maintaining focus on results.
- Highly developed communication skills adaptable to various audiences; able to convey complex information clearly while being sensitive to context and audience needs.
- Commitment to ongoing personal development demonstrated through active pursuit of learning opportunities relevant to strategy or planning roles.
- Understanding of legislative requirements applicable within Queensland’s public sector including health & safety obligations as well as ethical conduct standards.
- Ability to provide expert advice on planning or reporting matters aligned with government frameworks or policy guidelines.
- Experience preparing detailed reports for executive audiences using data-driven insights that inform strategic decisions.
- Possession of a current C class driver licence is mandatory due to potential travel requirements.
