A07 Principal Improvement Officer

Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Improvement Officer to join a highly respected government agency. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact by supporting large-scale, complex projects that shape the future of Queensland. With access to excellent working conditions, wellbeing programmes, and ongoing training opportunities, this is your chance to contribute to significant initiatives leading up to major international events while developing your expertise in business improvement.

What you'll do:

As Principal Improvement Officer, you will play an integral role in supporting the delivery of key projects. Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with stakeholders from various departments to document current processes, identify areas for improvement, and recommend practical solutions that drive efficiency. You will be responsible for analysing complex systems, facilitating workshops, conducting interviews, and preparing clear documentation that supports decision-making at the highest level. By leveraging your analytical skills and experience in process mapping, you will help ensure that project outcomes are aligned with strategic objectives while fostering a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organisation. Your ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and senior executives will be essential as you guide the implementation of new systems or enhancements that deliver tangible benefits.

  • Respond proactively as a business analyst to support continuous improvement priorities across the organisation, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Document and analyse current finance and procurement system functionality by creating detailed ‘as-is’ process maps that inform future enhancements.
  • Translate business needs into clear, actionable requirements for system improvements or replacements, providing executive management with robust recommendations.
  • Conduct market scans to identify potential software solutions that align with identified business needs, evaluating options based on functionality and integration capabilities.
  • Map and enhance mission delivery and evaluation processes through effective stakeholder consultation and engagement at all organisational levels.
  • Drive improvements in major initiative and non-financial performance reporting and evaluation processes, ensuring accurate measurement of outcomes.
  • Identify redundancies, inefficiencies, and opportunities for automation or process enhancement within existing workflows.
  • Facilitate workshops and conduct interviews with stakeholders including executives, finance staff, ICT professionals, and end users to gather insights on current processes.
  • Provide expert advice on project and change management techniques to embed successful delivery and sustainable change across the organisation.

What you bring:

To excel as Principal Improvement Officer, you will bring a wealth of experience in supporting business transformation initiatives within complex organisational settings. Your interpersonal skills will enable you to foster strong connections across teams while gathering valuable insights through stakeholder engagement activities. You will have a track record of translating business requirements into actionable plans that lead to measurable improvements in efficiency or effectiveness. Your analytical mindset allows you to evaluate existing systems critically while identifying opportunities for automation or streamlining processes. In addition to your technical expertise in process mapping and performance analysis, your resilience enables you to thrive when managing multiple priorities simultaneously. Your communication abilities ensure that even complex information is presented clearly for decision-makers at all levels. While formal qualifications in project or change management are advantageous, it is your practical experience—combined with empathy for others’ perspectives—that truly sets you apart.

  • Demonstrated experience building relationships that support successful delivery of projects and sustainable change through collaborative approaches.
  • Proven ability to provide expert advice on project management methodologies and change management techniques within complex environments.
  • Strategic thinking skills that connect operational project outcomes with broader organisational direction while understanding current drivers.
  • Experience monitoring, reviewing, or advising on high-impact projects involving financial management systems or process improvements.
  • Strong background in process mapping, benefit realisation, risk management, and performance analysis within large organisations.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to facilitate workshops, conduct interviews, negotiate outcomes, and build consensus among diverse groups.
  • High-level verbal and written communication skills including experience developing presentations for senior audiences using data-driven insights.
  • Resilience under pressure with proven ability to manage competing priorities in fast-moving environments while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Practical experience or qualifications in programme/project management or change management are highly regarded but not mandatory.
