Principal Infrastructure Services Officer

Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Infrastructure Services Officer to join a highly respected public sector organisation in Brisbane, dedicated to supporting the ongoing improvement and maintenance of educational facilities.

This pivotal role offers you the chance to shape and enhance maintenance programs that directly impact schools, staff housing, and early childhood education centres across the region. You will be part of a team that values professionalism, diversity, and a healthy work-life balance, while also encouraging your professional growth through continuous learning and development. If you are passionate about making a tangible difference in the community and thrive in an environment where your expertise is valued and your input shapes policy and practice, this is the perfect next step for your career.

  • Play a key role in developing and refining policies and strategies that ensure safe, well-maintained learning environments for students and staff across Queensland.
  • Join a supportive team committed to collaboration, professional development, and continuous improvement of processes and outcomes.
  • Enjoy flexible working opportunities within an organisation that embraces diversity, respects work-life balance, and values your unique contributions.

What you'll do:

As Principal Infrastructure Services Officer, you will play an instrumental role in shaping the future of school maintenance operations by driving the development of robust policies and strategies. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating closely with colleagues across various teams to ensure that all maintenance programs are not only compliant but also optimised for efficiency and effectiveness. You will lead efforts in evaluating current practices, identifying areas for enhancement, and implementing innovative solutions that align with organisational goals. By managing reporting processes and providing high-level advice on asset management strategies, you will help secure long-term value from investments in educational infrastructure. Your ability to coordinate complex projects, communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders, and foster a culture of continuous improvement will be essential to your success in this influential position.

  • Develop comprehensive policies, strategies, and program plans to effectively manage division-wide maintenance initiatives for educational facilities.
  • Evaluate existing maintenance programs and policies to ensure objectives are met, proposing thoughtful improvements based on thorough assessments.
  • Design and review methodologies for allocating maintenance funding to schools, ensuring equitable distribution aligned with organisational priorities.
  • Establish clear business rules and performance indicators to guide productive relationships with major service delivery partners such as QBuild.
  • Lead a small team focused on long-term planning by creating forward pipelines of work that support sustainable asset management.
  • Coordinate the production of high-quality reports for both internal stakeholders and external clients, including senior management teams.
  • Analyse data from Asset Life Cycle Assessments to inform strategic investment decisions in maintenance activities over the long term.
  • Provide expert advice on asset maintenance policy development that supports effective lifecycle planning for departmental assets.
  • Prepare ministerial correspondence, briefing materials, and detailed reports related to maintenance programs while contributing valuable insights to policy formation.

What you bring:

In this Principal Infrastructure Services Officer role, your background will include significant exposure to infrastructure or asset management—ideally within the public sector or education environment—where you have demonstrated your capacity for policy development and program evaluation. Your interpersonal skills will enable you to build strong connections across teams while fostering an inclusive atmosphere where everyone’s input is valued. You bring a keen eye for detail when analysing data or reviewing methodologies, ensuring recommendations are both practical and impactful. Your written communication abilities allow you to prepare clear reports and briefings tailored for senior decision-makers. Above all else, your commitment to collaboration ensures you work harmoniously with others towards common goals while nurturing professional growth among colleagues.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing policies, strategies, or program plans within an infrastructure or asset management context is highly desirable.
  • Well-developed analytical skills with proven ability to assess complex data sets and translate findings into actionable recommendations for program improvement.
  • Strong communication skills enabling you to consult effectively with stakeholders at all levels while negotiating positive outcomes.
  • A collaborative approach with experience leading or coordinating small teams towards shared objectives in a supportive manner.
  • Comprehensive understanding of contemporary asset management concepts relevant to educational or public sector environments.
  • Proven ability to plan strategically and report accurately on large-scale maintenance programs or similar operational initiatives.
  • Experience preparing high-quality written materials such as reports, ministerial correspondence, or policy documents for senior audiences.
  • Capacity to develop business rules and performance indicators that drive accountability in service delivery partnerships.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development alongside a willingness to share knowledge within a communal team setting.
