Payroll Officer

What you'll do:
As a Payroll Officer, you will play an integral role within the Financial Control team by ensuring seamless delivery of all aspects of payroll processing for a diverse workforce. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve managing complex payroll calculations, supporting employees with their queries, preparing detailed financial reports for month-end close, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. You will also have the opportunity to participate in process improvement projects that drive efficiency within the Payroll function. Working closely with both internal stakeholders and external partners, your ability to communicate effectively and prioritise tasks will be key to your success. The position offers variety through involvement in ad-hoc reporting tasks during busy periods as well as audit support. By contributing your expertise in payroll operations within this supportive environment, you will help ensure that employees are paid accurately and on time while continuously enhancing processes for future growth.
- Deliver end-to-end monthly payroll processing for approximately 420 employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Manage onboarding and offboarding processes by processing new starters and terminations efficiently and with attention to detail.
- Handle incentive payments, adjustments, parental leave calculations, redundancies, superannuation contributions, and other payroll-related transactions.
- Liaise closely with internal teams and external partners to resolve payroll queries promptly and provide guidance and support to employees as needed.
- Prepare and lodge Single Touch Payroll (STP) submissions in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Generate comprehensive month-end reports, process journals, and prepare balance sheet reconciliations for payroll-related accounts including annual leave, long service leave, year-to-date payroll, and superannuation.
- Undertake payroll tax preparation and lodgement activities while collaborating with the Finance team to reconcile expat payrolls accurately.
- Assist in process improvement initiatives and automation projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the Payroll function across the organisation.
- Support ad-hoc reporting requests during peak periods as well as audit requests by providing accurate information in a timely manner.
- Contribute positively to the Finance team’s culture by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and participating in collective problem-solving.
What you bring:

- This role is part-time and will be for 3 days/week or shorter hours across 5 days
- 3-5 years’ experience in a similar Payroll Officer role within medium or large organisations is essential for success in this position.
- Previous exposure to financial services environments is highly regarded but not mandatory.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required for data management and reporting purposes.
- Experience using ADP or Workday systems would be advantageous but not essential; willingness to learn new systems quickly is important.
- A diploma or certificate in Accounting or Payroll courses demonstrates your technical foundation for this role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills enable you to interact effectively with colleagues at all levels of the business.
- High levels of accuracy combined with strong analytical abilities allow you to deliver quality work under pressure.
