Senior Payroll Officer

Save job

This role offers you the opportunity to play a pivotal part in ensuring the smooth, accurate, and timely delivery of payroll services for a diverse workforce. You will be surrounded by knowledgeable professionals who value collaboration, dependability, and a commitment to quality, safety, and environmental standards. With flexible working opportunities and a strong focus on professional development, this position is ideal for someone looking to further their career in payroll within an environment that values your expertise and encourages growth.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Payroll Officer, you will play an integral role in managing the end-to-end payroll process for the organisation’s workforce.

  • Ensure all new personnel are correctly authorised on the payroll system and that comprehensive tax documentation is accurately prepared for each employee.
  • Review weekly and fortnightly timesheets for accuracy, including calculating extended hours when applicable, to guarantee precise wage payments.
  • Calculate wages, salaries, allowances, leave entitlements, and final payments upon termination with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Oversee the correct remittance of tax obligations and other employee deductions in compliance with relevant legislation and company policies.
  • Reconcile payroll runs regularly and provide detailed reporting on results to key stakeholders within the Finance department.
  • Process payroll tax efficiently and ensure superannuation contributions are managed through the appropriate clearing house channels.
  • Liaise effectively with external payroll agencies as required to maintain seamless payroll operations across different business units.
  • Administer Enterprise Bargaining Agreement Long Service Leave (EBA LSL) processes for various states, ensuring compliance with differing legislative requirements.
  • Verify end-of-month payroll payments and support junior payroll employees by providing guidance and sharing best practices.
  • Promote adherence to quality, safety, and environmental policies while actively participating in programs designed to assure workplace safety

What you bring:

To excel as a Senior Payroll Officer in this organisation, you will bring proven experience managing complex payroll functions where accuracy is non-negotiable.

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar payroll position within a medium or large organisation where accuracy and reliability were paramount.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with advanced Excel skills that enable you to manage data efficiently and produce clear reports.
  • Familiarity with Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting requirements as well as pay code setup processes within modern payroll systems.
  • Exposure to ADP or similar payroll software would be advantageous but is not essential for success in this role.
  • Excellent communication skills that allow you to build rapport across departments and explain complex information clearly when liaising with both internal teams and external agencies.
  • A dependable approach combined with honesty, integrity, and a genuine commitment to delivering results that benefit both employees and the wider organisation.
  • Exceptional attention to detail which ensures all calculations are correct and all documentation is completed thoroughly every time.
  • A collaborative mindset that enables you to work effectively as part of a team while also supporting junior colleagues through mentoring or guidance.
  • Strong relationship-building abilities that help foster trust among stakeholders at all levels of the business as well as with external partners such as regulatory bodies or industry associations.
