Save job

Join a respected public sector organisation in Brisbane CBD as a Senior or Principal Finance Officer. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact by supporting financial governance and driving process improvements in a collaborative, inclusive environment. Be part of a skilled team that values professional growth and shared expertise.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Finance Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial landscape of this public sector organisation. Your day-to-day activities will involve building trusted relationships with both internal colleagues and external partners to ensure seamless communication and effective collaboration. You will be responsible for supporting critical budgeting processes, overseeing asset management functions with precision, and preparing detailed reports that inform strategic decision-making. By contributing your expertise to the development of financial models and cost recovery systems, you will help drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency through automation. Your ability to provide clear guidance on complex issues will make you an invaluable resource within the team. Success in this role comes from your commitment to accuracy, your willingness to share knowledge generously with others, and your dedication to upholding high standards of governance in every aspect of your work.

  • Collaborate closely with internal teams as well as external government and industry stakeholders to foster strong professional partnerships built on trust and mutual understanding.
  • Gain a deep understanding of partnership business goals and key drivers for financial performance, focusing on managing risk, optimising costs, improving revenues, and enhancing overall business outcomes.
  • Play an integral role in preparing annual budgets and forecasts, ensuring all reporting requirements are met with accuracy and integrity throughout each cycle.
  • Oversee asset management processes including capitalisation, depreciation, asset re-living, and revaluation, maintaining transparency and timely reporting at every stage.
  • Prepare comprehensive financial reports, budget proposals, and briefings that clearly communicate how information technology investments support broader business needs.
  • Contribute actively to the development, implementation, and ongoing review of robust financial models and cost recovery systems that underpin effective governance.
  • Drive process improvements by identifying automation opportunities and efficiency initiatives that enhance financial operations across the organisation.
  • Support the continuous improvement of financial practices by participating in regular reviews and recommending enhancements based on best practice standards.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and legislative requirements in all aspects of financial management.
  • Provide guidance to colleagues on complex financial matters, fostering an environment of shared learning and dependable teamwork.

What you bring:

In this Senior Finance Officer position, your proven background in public sector finance or similar environments will enable you to excel as a dependable member of the team. Your experience working collaboratively with stakeholders from varied backgrounds ensures you can build rapport quickly while maintaining professionalism at all times. You bring not only technical proficiency in budgeting cycles but also an analytical mindset capable of interpreting complex data sets into actionable insights. Your attention to detail underpins your approach to asset management tasks while your communication skills allow you to present findings clearly whether written or verbal. A natural inclination towards process improvement means you are always seeking ways to enhance efficiency, particularly through automation, and you are comfortable navigating compliance requirements inherent in government settings. Above all else, your enthusiasm for sharing knowledge makes you a valued contributor who supports others’ growth alongside your own.

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating effectively with diverse internal teams as well as external stakeholders across government or industry sectors.
  • A thorough understanding of business drivers for financial performance including risk management, cost optimisation strategies, revenue enhancement techniques, and business performance improvement methodologies.
  • Proven track record in preparing annual budgets, forecasts, and ensuring accurate reporting aligned with organisational objectives.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of asset management processes such as capitalisation, depreciation schedules, asset re-living procedures, revaluation methods, and transparent reporting practices.
  • Strong capability in preparing detailed financial reports, budget proposals, presentations or briefings tailored for various audiences including those related to information technology investments.
  • Experience contributing to the design, implementation or review of financial models or cost recovery systems that support effective governance frameworks.
  • A keen interest in identifying process improvement opportunities particularly those involving automation or increased operational efficiency within finance functions.
  • Commitment to maintaining compliance with relevant policies, procedures or legislative requirements governing public sector finance operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills enabling you to provide guidance on complex matters while nurturing a culture of shared learning within your team.
  • A passion for continuous professional development supported by participation in training opportunities or knowledge-sharing initiatives.
